Patna, Dec. 31: DAV Public School Shastrinagar today bid 2010 goodbye with a cultural programme.
An annual day function was organised on the school premises. The programme was held in two sessions.
The first session of the event was inaugurated by sugarcane and minor irrigation minister Awadhesh Prasad Kushwaha.
“DAV is an old institution where students are taught values. The institution has held on to its lineage of imparting rich Indian culture to its students. Those passing out from this institution shine in every field of life,” Kushwaha said.
Vijoy Prakash, principal secretary of planning and development, Bihar government was the guest of honour at the event.
“Such programmes should be organised from time to time, as they assist in enhancing the personality of a student,” he said.
R.K. Chauhan, regional director of DAV Public Schools, Patna zone, said: “Education is the collective responsibility of the society. Everyone should put in their efforts to get their children good education.”
Dressed in various costumes, children of the school performed a number of items. The responsibility of anchoring the programme was also on the students.
There were enough attractions at the event. After the welcome song, children sang bhajan.
The court scene from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice got a huge round of applause from the audience. Students as Adhish Jain and Divya Anand were praised for their performance.
Students staged a play with theme of equal rights for women. The play showed how the discrimination between the girl and the boy starts at the home itself, and this continues to the Parliament.
The last event was called “Glimpses of India”, which showcased the unity of the country, despite cultural diversities. This event probably got appreciated the most as students were beautifully depicting the people from different states of the country.”
The principal of the school Krishna Banerjee welcomed the guests. She presented the annual report at the event.
Banerjee said: “The efforts of the children can be seen in the beautiful programme they have put up. All the items are to be appreciated and the songs sung by the young children cannot be ignored.”
Principals of DAV Gola Road S.K. Jha and DAV Patliputra Suchitra Gauri were also present at the occasion.
Like the first session, even the second session had interesting events. Events like Taare Zameen Par, a dance sequence in the second session, got a lot of appreciation.
