Patna: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths quizzed Aurangabad district magistrate Kanwal Tanuj in Patna on Saturday, a day after a sea-rch at his official residence in Aurangabad on Friday.

Sources in the CBI said Tanuj, a 2010-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was summoned to Patna on Saturday afternoon and quizzed at an undisclosed location. He was showed documents seized during searches at his residence on Friday.

The interrogators also showed him transactions from bank accounts of his family members. During the seven-hour long interrogation, Tanuj tried to convince the interrogators but in vain. The officials also sought information about his family's property in Lucknow and Noida.

A senior officer posted in Aurangabad said Tanuj proceeded on four-days leave after handing over charge to district public grievance redressal officer Gajendra Mishra. Earlier on Friday, Mohammad Majoor Ali, the district land acquisition officer of Aurangabad, was questioned by the CBI officials in Aurangabad.

Sources said CBI officials also interrogated a senior deputy collector of Aurangabad Ram Anugrah and inquired about acquisition of land for the Nabinagar power plant and payment of compensation to the owners.

The state government, however, has not taken any action against Tanuj even after charges of financial irregularities levelled against him and others.

"We are yet to receive any official communication from the CBI headquarters," a senior IAS officer said.

An influential leader of Nabinagar is under the surveillance of the CBI in the case. He is said to be the mastermind behind the fraud.
