
A three-day orientation programme that started at Patna Women's College last Saturday ended on July 10.
Students from commerce and vocational courses were told about their courses and their career prospects. The faculty members also told them about add-on courses and choice-based credit system which Patna University will introduce in the next academic session.
The programme was held on the college premises with students and teachers from different departments in attendance.
Principal Sister Marie Jessie welcomed the students and asked them to abide by the college's rules and regulations. Sister Rashmi highlighted Patna Women's College vision, mission, objective and core values.
Kumari Surbhi, one of the new students, said: "It is a proud moment for us to join Patna Women's College which is not only a premier institution in the city but across the state."
Population control
Patna University's vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh emphasised on effective management of the ever increasing population in the country to ensure progress at World Population Day celebrations on Wednesday.
He was speaking at a function organised at the statistics department by the university's Population Research Centre and Indian Association for the Study of Population. Singh said: "No development model or plan can succeed unless population growth is checked. Government and social organisations must create awareness among youngsters about population control. If they are properly educated they can help check population growth."
Rally prod
Students and faculty members at Birla Institute of Technology's Patna campus on Wednesday took out an awareness rally on World Population Day.
The rally originated from Ashiana Mor, passed through Jagdeo roundabout and took Raja Bazar, IGIMS, Sheikhpura Mor and Veterinary College grounds before ending at the college campus.
At least 500 students from B> T Patna, Patna Science College, Patna Women's College, BN College, Patna College, Magadh Mahila College, AN College, College of Commerce, Arts and Science participated in the programme.
The chief guest at the programme was Patna University vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh.
BIT-Patna director Bijay Kumar Singh also spoke on the occasion, asking engineering graduates to work in for population control.
The students said such rallies should be held at regular intervals. BIT Patna student Mayank Singh said: "It is high time that youngsters work towards creating awareness about population."
