Patna: The Bihar BJP on Wednesday demanded that Lalu Prasad's bail be cancelled, claiming that the RJD chief had held political meetings in violation of his bail terms.
The BJP demand came a day after a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) delegation called on Lalu.
The RJD said people were visiting Lalu as he was not keeping well.
"Congress leader Ashok Gehlot recently called on the RJD leader and then three MPs of the TDP met him and had political discussions. On this very ground CBI should move for getting his (Lalu's) bail cancelled," said senior BJP leader and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi.
Lalu had been given bail on the condition that he would keep away from political activities but he was violating the terms of the bail, Modi added.
"It is a case of contempt of court," Modi said.
The deputy CM claimed that the TDP leaders accepted that they met Lalu and solicited his party's support for their no-confidence motion against the Union government in Parliament.
The TDP members had submitted a memorandum over the issue on Tuesday, which had been addressed to Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu's younger son and leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly.
The RJD dubbed the BJP demand insensitive.
"By making such a brazenly insensitive statement, Sushil Modi has once again proved that he doesn't possess even basic human values," said RJD Rajya Sabha member and party national spokesperson Manoj Jha.
"He must always remember that unlike him Lalu ji is a mass leader and that is why people wish to visit him when he is not well. The recent visits by political leaders should be seen in that context," Jha declared.
NDA leaders have also called on Lalu, who is recuperating in Patna after undergoing surgery in Mumbai, to ask about his health.
When Lalu was being treated at AIIMS Delhi, Union ministers Ashwini Kumar Choubey (BJP) and Upendra Kushwaha (RLSP) had visited him. Congress president Rahul Gandhi had also visited Lalu then.
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar had also called up Lalu's close aide Bhola Yadav in Mumbai after Lalu's surgery.
