Patna, Jan. 30: At least two junior doctors sustained bullet injuries after some supporters of controversial RJD legislator Surendra Prasad Yadav allegedly resorted to indiscriminate firing this evening at Anugrah Narayan Medical College and Hospital.

Seething in anger after the incident, a mob set a police vehicle on fire. The junior doctors have threatened to go on indefinite strike from tomorrow if their demand for immediate arrest of the MLA and his bodyguard was not met with.

The injured doctors have been identified as Suprakash and Shahabuddin. They have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. While Suprakash, a resident of Tripura, received injuries in his leg, Shahabuddin, a resident of Muzaffarpur suffered minor injuries in his thigh.

The trouble erupted around 8pm following an argument between the doctors on duty and the supporters of the controversial Bela legislator over attending a bullet-hit patient brought to the hospital. The doctors reportedly asked the attendants to first report the matter to the police and then admit the patient. This led to heated argument between the doctors and the supporters of Yadav. Later, they opened fire, causing injuries to two interns. Eyewitnesses said the Bela MLA’s bodyguard was present on the spot when his supporters opened fire. The firing created panic among the attendants of the patients undergoing treatment as well as the doctors and para-medical staff.

Gaya district magistrate Sanjay Singh and Gaya senior superintendent of police Amit Lodha were camping at the site at the time of the filing of this report.

Yadav, the RJD MLA, had hit the headlines when he had illegally confined Atul Prakash, a Patna-based businessman, in his Gaya house. Prakash was taken into custody from Gujarat by a Bihar police team for interrogation in connection with a kidnapping case.
