Patna, July 27: Sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today recovered documents revealing over Rs 20 lakh cash savings of the arrested deputy general manager of National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC), Anil Kumar Singh.
The NBCC official posted at Khagaria was caught red-handed late last night accepting Rs 1.25 lakh as bribe from the complainant, Prem Ranjan, a resident of Majhaulia in Muzaffarpur, for clearing his bills to the tune of Rs 60 lakh.
Ranjan had bagged the Rs 2 crore bid for construction of a road between Thata and Nirpur in Khagaria district under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Singh, holding the charge of the project manager, had allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh from the contractor. Taken aback, the contractor lodged a complaint against Singh with the CBI in the state capital on July 7.
“Acting on the complaint, the CBI sleuths laid a trap and arrested the NBCC deputy general manager. The first installment of the bribe was also recovered from Singh’s possession,” a senior CBI officer said.
The CBI sleuths today searched Singh’s house at Chandra Vihar Colony in Patna and seized documents related to fixed deposit of Rs 9.63 lakh, cash deposit of Rs 9.18 lakh in banks, and Rs 3.89 lakh in post office. “We have also seized documents related to huge investments in insurance policies,” the officer said.
Singh was produced in the special CBI court in here. The CBI judge, Dhirendra Kumar Pandey, remanded him to judicial custody in the Beur Central Jail till August 9.
Arrests
Arvind Kumar, the chief instructor of the railway traffic gateman, was arrested from the divisional railway training centre at Mokama (Patna) while taking a bribe of Rs 1,500 from a complainant.
Acting on a complaint lodged by Shyam Vinay Prasad, a retired army personnel and a resident of Nehalpur village in Jehanabad district, the officials of the anti-corruption wing of the CBI laid a trap and caught Kumar red-handed while taking bribe from the former.
Prasad, in a complaint lodged with the CBI office here on July 22, had alleged that the chief instructor was demanding Rs 1,500 each from the 39 trainees for issuing them efficiency certificate. Prasad is a gateman in the Danapur railway division.
The vigilance investigation bureau, meanwhile, nabbed Ajit Singh, a revenue department employee posted in Bhabhua circle of Kaimur district, while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from one Santosh Kumar for issuing mutation certificate.
