Officer farewell

Patna: A 1984-batch IPS officer, A.K. Upadhyay, was accorded a farewell on the Bihar Military Police premises in Patna on Sunday.

He will retire from service on Monday. He was posted as director-general-cum-chief managing director of Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation.

A host of senior police officers, including director-general of police P.K. Thakur, additional director-general (headquarters) S.K. Singhal, additional director-general, criminal investigation department, Vinay Kumar and additional director-general (law and order) Alok Raj were among those present.

Two killed

Patna: At least two persons were killed and 20 others injured when a bus collided with a speeding truck in Bhagalpur district on Sunday. The bus was on its way to Bhagalpur from Purnea. The injured were rushed to a local hospital where the condition of three was stated to be critical.

Quiz

Patna: NIT-Rourkela representatives Nishant Nihar and Abhishek Patra won the first prize in the NTPC Electron Quiz 2017 eastern region final competition held at Chandragupta Institute of Management (CIMP) campus on Saturday. Ravi Kumar Gupta and Nikhil Gaekwad of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi and Shalini and Roushan Kumar of CIMP clinched second and third position respectively. . Top three teams from the competition would participate in the national finals to be held at NTPC Business School, Noida on August 19.

Flood review

Patna: National Disaster Response Force director-general Sanjay Kumar on Saturday took stock of the flood situation in Bihar at the headquarters of 9<+>th<+> battalion of the force located at Bihta in Patna district.

Rebel arrest

Hajipur: Police arrested a suspected Maoist, Naulakh Singh, from Thathan village in Vaishali district on Saturday. Police said Naulakh was involved in several Naxalite-related incidents in Muzaffarpur and Vaishali districts.

Shot dead

Hajipur: A 25-year-old youth, identified as Dipak Kumar Mahto, was shot dead by criminals near Chasikandar under the jurisdiction of Bidupur police station in Vaishali district on Friday. Police said Dipak, a resident of Saran, was an employee of a private finance company.

Five kids drown

• Patna: Five girls aged between nine and 14 years drowned while bathing in a pond in Darbhanga on Sunday.

Police said the incident occurred when the group of nine residents of Kartho village went to take bath in the pond on way to the village temple. The bodies of the five, identified as those of Laxmi Kumari (14), Bandhan Kumari (12), Nidhi Kumari (11), Sujeeta (9) and Pinki (10), were fished out and handed over to their families. Darbhanga DM Chandrashekhar announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to each of the victim's families.

Murder case

• Patna: Muzaffarpur SSP Vivek Kumar on Sunday said the conspiracy to murder Ramesh Singh, husband of Gulabpatti panchayat mukhiya Lalita Devi in Muzaffarpur, was hatched in Motihari Central Jail. A local politician Lal Mohammad had allegedly given a contract of Rs 5 lakh to Vikesh Singh to kill Ramesh, he added.

• Patna (PTI): The NIT-Rourkela team has won the NTPC Electron Quiz 2017, a regional-level competition organised for NTPC Eastern Region-I, Patna. NIT-Rourkela's Nishant Nihar and Abhishek Patra won first prize at the NTPC Electron Quiz 2017 held at Chandragupta Institute of Management Patna campus on Saturday. Ravi Kumar Gupta and Nikhil Gaekwad of IIM-Ranchi and Shalini & Roushan Kumar of CIMP stood second and third, respectively.

Seizure

• Munger (PTI): Police on Sunday seized 32 automatic pistols and arrested two persons from Munger. The police searched an e-rickshaw from which it recovered automatic pistols kept in two bags by two persons, superintendent of police Ashish Bharti said. The two have been identified as Mohammad Afroz, a resident of Bengal's Hooghly district and Mohammad Jubaid, a resident of Hazrat Bara in Munger, the SP added.

Rebels held

• Aurangabad (PTI): A team of the CRPF and police arrested three Maoists, Ramlagan Singh Bhokta, Kamlesh Singh Bhokta and Mahesh Bhuiya, from Aurangabad.
