Call issued at court

Patna: Judicial magistrate Smita Raj on Thursday took cognisance of a complaint filed by the state president of Lok Jan Shakti Party, Vishnu Paswan, and directed her office to issue summons against the national president of Janata Dal (U), Sharad Yadav, in connection to a defamatory case.

According to complainant Sri Yadav used unparliamentarily language against the former Chief Minister Jeetan Ram Manjhi on November 11, 2014.

Order

Patna: Bihar human rights commission on Thursday directed superintendent of police, Banka to punish officers responsible for delay in granting compensation to Jamuni Devi, wife of Gauri Shankar Singh, who had complained to the commission that her husband was killed by Naxalites in September, 2014.

Conflict

Gaya: Criminals torched eight vehicles and some shops near Bhusunda roundabout on Thursday morning. They also pelted stones at police, during which the station house officer and four other personnel sustained injuries.

Dharna

Patna: Around 2,000 sales representatives under the banner of Bihar Jharkhand Sales Representaives Union on Thursday organised a daylong dharna at Gardanibagh in support of their demand for minimum wages.

Rescue

Gaya: Sixteen women were rescued from a prostitution scam on Wednesday. Deputy superintendent of police, law and order, Satish Kumar conducted the raid and rescued the women after being tipped off by NGO Ek Kiran Aaroh.

Darbhanga: State irrigation minister Lalan Singh on Thursday took stock of the flood situation in Darbhanga. He visited Ghanshyampur area and inspected Kamla-Balan embankment.

Seminar

Patna: A seminar was organised on Thursday by department of PMIR, Patna University in which speakers raised issues related to effects of capitalism on the world order.

Workshop

Patna: A workshop on Hindi was organised by UCO bank here on Thursday. The workshop was held as a part of Hindi month celebrated by the bank to promote Hindi in offical work.

Raid

Patna: CBI sleuths on Thursday carried out raids at Shukla Tola in Siwan town and picked up a suspect for interrogation in connection with the Siwan journalist Rajdev Ranjan murder case. A team of forensic experts from Delhi has also arrived to assist the investigating officer in the case.

Accident

Patna: A minor boy, Mohit Kumar, died in a road accident after he was hit by a tractor at Bahadurpur under the jurisdiction of Kadam Kuan police station in the capital on Thursday. The irate residents later blockade the road and disrupted traffic for an hour. The road blockade was lifted after the intervention of senior police officials.

Court

Patna: The Patna police on Thursday produced Anil Sulabh, his son Abash Sulabh and wife Kiran Jha in court in connection with irregularities committed at the Indian Institute of Health Education and Research, Beur. The students of institute on Wednesday staged a protest in the institute premises, demanding action against Sulab and other institute officials.
