Hooch tragedy hearing

Gopalganj: On September 16, district magistrate Rahul Kumar will hear the matter of imposing cumulative fine on persons involved in the Khajurbanni hooch tragedy .

Several of the accused are yet to be served notices, and the case can only be heard only after the notices are served.

Petition

Darbhanga: Dev Narayan Jha, former vice chancellor of Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University, has filed a petition in Patna High Court challenging his removal from the post.

Rape case

Patna: The Gaya Mufassil police on Wednesday arrested two men, Sonu and Rahul Kumar, on charges of raping a class XII student of Gaya Intermediate College on Tuesday when she was returning home in Sonu's autorickshaw.

Cop attacked

Buxar: A mob protesting the death of a minor boy in a road accident brutally assaulted a police officer, Shivji Rai, at Dumraon in Buxar district on Wednesday.

Kabaddi

Patna: The 66th All India Indian Railway Kabaddi Tournament (Mens) 2016-17 will start on Thursday at Patliputra Sports Complex. A total of 15 zonal teams will participate.

Bank strike

Patna: Public sector banks in Bihar will participate in the all India bank strike on September 2 to protest the privatisation of government-runbanks and insurance companies, changes in labour laws, foreign direct investment in finance, railways, defence and retail sectors, inflation and the government not taking stern action against wilful defaulters.

Life sentence

Gopalganj: Additional District Judge III Ram Vinod Prasad on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to four persons including a married couple for beating Shiv Bachan Sah, a farmer, to death for plucking mangoes. The incident had occurred in 2003 at Hararva village under the jurisdiction of Kateya police station.

Order

Patna: Patna High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to file a reply stating how it will implement the installation of air and noise pollution apparatus in different districts of the state.

FD gift

Chhapra: District magistrate Deepak Anand on Wednesday gifted fixed deposits worth Rs 2,75,000 to four couples for opting for inter-caste marriage. Anand said that the gift is an encouragement to eradicate the caste system, discourage dowry system and abolish untouchability.

Stoned to death

Chhapra: A person died while five others sustained serious injuries following a firing and the pelting of stones over a land dispute in Garkha Bazaar on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Shabbir Khan.

Patna: Former BJP leader Devendra Shaw on Wednesday joined the JDU in the presence of the party's state unit president Bashishtha Narayan Singh and JDU national general secretary Shyam Rajak in the party office.

Patna: Union Bank was awarded first prize for implementation of Hindi in its official work at the 65th meeting of Nagar Rajbhasha Karyanvan Samiti (Bank), Patna on Wednesday under the chairmanship of RBI regional director Manoj Kumar Verma.

Patna: Zonal manager of Andhra Bank in a press note issued on Wednesday said that the central government through the RBI has announced the sale of sovereign gold bond from September 1-9, 2016.

Life imprisonment

Chhapra: Additional District Judge VIII Vinod Kumar Mishra on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to one Mithilesh Rai of Jaitia village under the jurisdiction of Sonepur police station for stabbing his younger brother Raju Rai following a land dispute in the year 2012.

New policy

Patna: Bihar chamber of commerce on Wednesday hailed the state government's move to approve the industrial promotion policy, 2016. Chamber president O.P. Shah said the new policy will encourage businessmen to invest in the state which will give a push to industrial development.

Shoot out

Katihar: A person died, while another was injured when a group of armed militants opened fire at Salha village on Wednesday evening. The injured has been rushed to Katihar Sadar hospital, while investigations into the incident continue.
