Grief

Patna: Governor Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday condoled the death of AR Kidwai, the former Governor of Bihar, Bengal, and Haryana who passed away after prolonged illness. 

Kovind in his condolence message said Kidwai was a popular leader, noted academician and an able administrator and termed his death as an irreparable loss to the nation. Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee also condoled Kidwai’s demise.

MLA gets bail

Patna: A single bench of Patna High Court on Wednesday granted bail to independent MLA Anant Singh in a case related to the killing ofJawahar Singh(70), a resident of Bakhwa village, 60km east of Patna.

Jawahar was killed on October 30, 2015 when Anant was in jail, according to Singh's advocate P.K. Sahi, eliminating any possibility of Singh's involvement.

Death toll

Gaya : The death toll in the Aurangabad boat capsize incident, near village Kalem on Tuesday, rose to two as divers fished out another body from River Punpun on Wednesday. Five people have been reported as traceless.

4 acquitted

Patna: Special CBI judge R.K. Singh on Wednesday acquitted four persons including former assistant inspector general of police Ramchandra Khan and former superintendent of police Nalanda Ajit Datta due to a lack of evidence in connection with the uniform scam worth Rs. 15, 00000 lakh in 1982-84.

Compensation

Patna: Bihar Human Rights Commission on Wednesday awarded a compensation of Rs one lakh to Sunil Kumar Mahto, who was working as a labourer in Raghunathpur in July 2012, and was hit in the back by a bullet from the nearby Police Firing Range.

Arrest

Darbhanga: One Samaria Devi (55) was beaten to death on Wednesday by her son Arun Sada (35) after an argument regarding family matters in Madhopatti under the jurisdiction of Kamtaul police station. Arun has been arrested.

Raid

Motihari: A raid in Motihari central jail on Wednesday resulted in the recovery of eight mobiles, four SIM Cards and three pen-drives along with Rs 27,000 cash.

Proposal

Darbhanga: Nilima Sinha, vice chancellor of Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University, constituted a four member committee on Wednesday to send a proposal to award central varsity status to the university.

Section 144

Patna: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been enforced in Gopalganj district following violent clashes between two groups on Wednesday.
