Man robbed
Patna: Two persons on a motorbike robbed Sureshwar Prasad of Rs 6 lakh at Nageshwar Colony on Tuesday. Prasad was walking to his office with the money he withdrew when he was robbed.
Inspection
Munger: Munger commissioner Navin Chandra Jha conducted a surprise inspection of Munger Sadar Hospital on Tuesday, expressing displeasure with the functioning. He directed the district magistrate to hold weekly reviews of healthcare facilities.
Arrest
Darbhanga: Police on Tuesday busted a bike-lifting gang and arrested two persons. One of them was held on Monday and the second from Kakraul village in Madhubani district on Tuesday.
Fake institute
Patna: A Patna High Court bench of Justice Ashwani Kumar on Tuesday directed the state government to give its reply in a case related to a fake human rights institute operating in Gaya district. Petitioner Mahavir Prasad alleged that though the police have been apprised, no action has been taken so far.
Vigilance arrest
Patna: The vigilance bureau on Tuesday arrested Sandip Kumar Thakur, district cooperative officer of Purna, for allegedly accepting Rs 25,000 as bribe from one Mahboob Alam. Thakur would be produced before a special vigilance court on Wednesday.
Tax evaders
Bhabhua: Three persons allegedly involved in tax evasion through illegal transportation of stone chips were arrested from Mohania in Kaimur district on Tuesday. Forged documents, computers and Rs 1.36 lakh in cash were seized from them.
Protest
Sasaram: Some traders staged a demonstration in front of the Rohtas superintendent of police's office on Tuesday to protest the police's failure to arrest the accused in an attack on a shop some days ago.
HC on hospital reports
Patna: The high court on Tuesday summoned the respective district magistrates (DMs) and civil surgeons to appear in court related to alleged encroachment of hospitals across Bihar. Petitioner Vikas Chandra, better known as Guddu Baba, had claimed that hospitals in most districts have been encroached upon.
The counsel for the vigilance had submitted reports for four districts in the last hearing and sought four weeks for the rest. The division bench of Chief Justice I.A. Ansari and Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh ordered the DMs and civil surgeons concerned to appear before the court on August 26 for the next hearing.
Computers
Patna: Mahila Samiti of State Bank of India on Tuesday distributed computers and wooden chowkis to senior citizens at Bees Kothi village in Digha. Vice-chairman of the samiti, Sadhna Mahapatra, and others were present at the programme.
Traffic drive
Patna: Traffic superintendent of police Prantosh Kumar Das on Tuesday inaugurated a traffic park at Orkid Petals Playschool. Around 20 students performed a road safety song composed by the school, while school promoter Udrrek V. Dharnidharka created an educational traffic park to build awareness about traffic lights, signs, zebra crossings and road safety measures among the students.

Patna: Punjab National Bank on Tuesday launched a special drive to promote savings and other facilities provided by the bank such as credit cards, ATMs, lockers and Internet banking.
VC notice
Patna: The high court division bench of Chief Justice I.A. Ansari and Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on Tuesday issued notices to Magadh University vice-chancellor Mohammad Ishtiyaque and the chancellor's office, directing them to file an affidavit in a case related to financial irregularities.
Train delay
Patna: RailYatri.in in its report on Tuesday said train delays in Bihar have fallen by 35 per cent since January 2016.
