Bike lifters in cop net

Patna: Nine people, all part of an inter-state gang involved in stealing bikes, were arrested on Monday.

Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said the men used to steal bikes from several places using master keys and then change the chassis number and registration number and re-sell them again to new people. Eight motorbikes, 10 cellphones and three master keys have been recovered from their possession.

Urdu push

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar would inaugurate 'Jashn-e-Urdu' at Shri Krishna Memorial Hall on Friday. The event will also be attended by RJD chief Lalu Prasad and several ministers. The function will culminate on March 26 with several sessions being held, including discussion on Urdu as a language.

Bank meet

Patna: An annual prize distribution and cultural programme was organised on Monday by the Union Bank of India. The function was inaugurated by deputy general manager, Patna zone, S.K. Mahapatra. Prizes were distributed to the winners of competitions held earlier which was meant for the staff of the bank and their family. Different types of sports, including athletics, badminton, table tennis and a T20 cricket match were held on the occasion.

Girls rescued

Patna: Two minor girls who had been forced into the flesh trade were recovered on Monday from a flat located in Kankerbagh. The cops said the man, identified as Dheeraj, used to bring the girls from Bengal. The man is being questioned.

Woman dead

Patna: A middle-aged woman, Pinky Devi, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a house at Shastrinagar.

Fire

Patna: A fire broke out in the wee hours of Monday in the official residence of JDU leader Shyam Rajak.

Order

Patna: The administration has declared March 24 dry a day due to Holi. The police said intensive patrolling will take place to ensure closure of wine shops besides ensuring law and order.

Fire kills two children

Motihari (PTI): A 13-year-old girl and her 10-year-old brother were charred to death in a fire that gutted 13 hutments at Chatia village in East Champaran on Monday.

Household goods and foodgrain worth lakhs of rupees were also gutted, said Korwa police station in-charge Basant Kumar.

Trains

Patna: Eeast Central Railway on Monday announced three Holi special trains from Patna, Jaynagar and Saharsha starting from March 22, 26 and 27 respectively.

BJP meet

Patna: The state BJP's two-day state executive meet will be held on March 27 and 28. The meeting will be attended by BJP national organisational secretary Saudan Singh.

Bank award

Patna: Corporation Bank was awarded the SKOCH Achiever Award for national SME enablement in New Delhi on March 18, a press note issued by the bank on Monday said.

New schemes

Patna: The department of financial services under the Union ministry of finance has organised an interactive seminar at the Nabard head office in Mumbai on Tuesday to discuss its recently launched schemes Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Unified Package Insurance Scheme.

Assets case

Patna: The vigilance investigation bureau on Monday lodged a disproportionate assets case against the marketing officer of Vaishali Bhola Giri. Giri has been accused of accumulating property worth Rs.1.24 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income.

FIR

Patna: Patna Medical College and Hospital administration on Monday lodged an FIR against one Bindeshwar Prasad, a fourth grade employee of the hospital, at police outpost in PMCH who was caught red-handed while taking out hospital medicines including various types of antibiotics outside. The hospital administration said it would carry out further investigation in this matter as medicines that were being taken outside illegally by the hospital employee were brought over on indent of sister-in-charge.
