Delhi nod to bridge
Patna: The cabinet committee of economic affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the additional bridge and doubling project of the Rampur Dumra-Tal-Rajendrapul sector at a cost of Rs 1,700.24 crore.
The project, encompassing Begusarai and Patna districts, is likely to be completed by 2019-20. The existing rail-cum-road bridge at Hathidah has a single-line track and doubling is not possible, which has resulted in big goods and passenger traffic snarls.
Tubewell
Patna: A division bench of Patna High Court comprising acting Chief Justice Iqbal Ahmad Ansari and Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh after hearing a PIL on Wednesday directed the state government to make all defunct tube-wells for irrigation in the state functional by March 19, 2016.
Dal meet
Patna: State JDU president Bashishtha Narayan Singh, accompanied by senior party leaders, on Wednesday convened a meeting with district heads at 7 Circular Road, the residence of chief minister Nitish Kumar. During the meeting, Bashishtha directed the district heads to work for strengthening the party apart from launching a membership drive with a target of 50 lakh. Nitish was not present at the meeting.
Heroin seizure
Patna (PTI): Government railway police on Wednesday seized about 250gm of heroin valued at Rs 25 lakh in the international market from a train at Patna Junction. The GRP caught one person, identified as Babu Bengali, travelling by Bhabua-Patna Intercity Express and recovered 340 small packets of the narcotic drug, inspector Pramod Kumar said.
Award
Patna: Senior journalist Navendu and Akashvani anchor Sangita Sinha will get awards from President Pranab Mukherjee in a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 22. Bharat Scouts and Guides has selected them for the Lord Baden Powell National Award 2016 for contribution to humanity.
Money order
Ara: Pappu Singh, one of the five named accused in connection with BJP leader Visheshwar Ojha murder, surrendered in the Ara district court on Wednesday. The court later sent him to judicial custody in the Ara divisional jail court for two weeks.
