Donate organ appeal

Patna: Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Saturday addressed over 40 voluntary and social service organisations and appealed to the people to associate with the campaign to donate eyes, organs and body so as to give life to others.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) eye department head Dr V.P. Sinha and Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasiya were present on the occasion.

Scheme focus

Patna: SC/ST welfare minister Santosh Kumar Nirala on Saturday said it was the duty of the state government to implement welfare schemes meant for the poor and deprived sections of society. Speaking at a seminar organised by Wada Na Todo Abhiyan-Bihar, he said all efforts will be made to ensure that funds designated for them are spent by the end of the financial year.

Lecture

Patna: Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Patna, on Saturday organised a lecture in which Anwesha Sengupta of Calcutta Research Group spoke about "mapping the many displacements of Bengali Hindu Refugees from East Pakistan, 1947 to 1960s" and said that the government's policy of dispersal of Bengali refugees in 1950s and 1960s to Bihar, Andaman, Odisha, United Provinces and other places was a peculiar form of forced migration as the refugees preferred settling down in Bengal.

Nalanda: Sainik School, Nalanda, celebrated Constitution Day on Saturday with a special assembly presided over by its principal Colonel M.I. Hussain.

3 dead in road mishap

Katihar, Nov. 26 (PTI): Three persons were killed when their car collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction on NH-31 in Katihar district today.

The incident occurred during heavy fog near Mosapur vilage on NH-31in the morning. The car bore a West Bengal registration number and one of the dead was identified as Mukti Mandal of Siliguri. The truck has been seized but its driver fled from the scene.

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday expressed grief over the demise of former Cuban president Fidel Castro.

Cong meet

Patna: Bihar Pradesh Mahila Congress president Amita Bhushan led a delegation of seven Congress MLAs and met Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi at his Tughlaq Lane residence in New Delhi. Chief spokesperson of state Congress H.K. Verma said the delegation apprised Rahul of the development programmes initiated by the Grand Alliance government in Bihar.

Anniversary

Patna: Bihar Khadi Gramodyog Sanstha Sangh and Bihar State Gandhi Smarak Nidhi on Saturday jointly celebrated the birth anniversary of Tripurari Sharan, who was popularly known as "khadi man" and invented a model charkha to help make various types of threads. Sangh president Prabhakar Kumar and others were present.
