Jeweller found dead

Patna: Purnea police recovered the body of kidnapped jeweller Pawan Kumar Swarnakar from Birnia Ghat on Tuesday. Pawan, the owner of Girija Jewellers at Bhawani in Purnea district, was kidnapped last week.

The police suspect the jeweller was murdered over a financial dispute. Two persons, including Subodh Swarnakar, are suspected to be involved.

Bhagalpur: Senior superintendent of police Manoj Kumar has suspended eight cops for alleged suppression of facts in the arrest of two persons in Sahebganj on Monday.

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday expressed his condolence over the death of around 20 persons in a hospital fire in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Patna: Police baton charged protesters during an agitation against removal of slums in the Shastri Nagar area on Tuesday (in PTI picture). The violence erupted when the police reached to remove encroachment. The slum dwellers staged a road blockade on Bailey Road and pelted the police with stones.

Muzaffarpur, Oct. 18: Three criminals travelling on a motorbike looted Rs 1.5 lakh from Sajan Kumar at gunpoint in Qutubpur village under Sakra police station area this afternoon. Sajan, an employee of a micro finance company, has lodged an FIR.

Compensation

Patna: The Bihar Human Rights Commission on Tuesday awarded Rs 1 lakh compensation to the son of Mukesh Kumar Singh, who died in Muzaffarpur central jail in 2013 because of alleged delayed medical treatment. The government has to pay within two months.
