Suicide bid foiled

Patna, Oct. 8: Jugal Kishore Sharma, a member of the Bihar Advocate Clerk Association, tried to immolate himself in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Maidan around 1.30pm on Saturday.

The attempt was foiled by local policemen deputed in the area, and Sharma was arrested.

Direct flight

Patna: IndiGo airlines will inaugurate direct flights from Patna to Bengaluru on October 24. It will be the first non-stop flight between the two cities. A press note issued by the airlines said the flight from Bengaluru will leave at 5.50pm and is scheduled to reach Patna at 8.05pm. The same flight will return to Bengaluru, leaving Patna at 8.35pm.

Paswan jab

Patna: Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan criticised the inflexibility of the new prohibition law. "If all the adult members of a family can be arrested for recovery of one liquor bottle, the chief minister should also be arrested when stocks of liquor bottles are recovered during police raids," said Paswan.

Sanitation

Patna: BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi questioned the state government's vow to make the state open-defecation-free by 2019. He said the state had set a target to build 42 lakh toilets in the current financial year, but in the first 6 months only 55,000 toilets have been made. Modi added that at this pace, Bihar will be far behind other states in their respective attempts to be open-defecation-free.

FIR filed

Patna: An FIR has been lodged against RJD MLA Kunti Devi's son Ranjeet Yadav and his associate Dipu Yadav for allegedly snatching Rs 10,000 from former panchayat head Jairam Rajvanshi in Gaya on Friday.
