HC pay order to minor

Patna: Bihar Human Rights Commission on Tuesday awarded Rs 30,000 in compensation to a minor boy detained and charge-sheeted by Bhojpur police for assaulting a 12-year-old girl in 2010.

Sajan Yadav of Pakri village was three when booked. The BHRC said the amount shall remain a fixed deposit in favour of the boy till he becomes an adult. The department must recover the money from the investigating officer and the inspector.

Assault

Patna: Police on Tuesday nabbed a man claiming to be an army officer who had assaulted a sub-inspector of Kankerbagh police station. Vikas Kumar was stopped by the police for not wearing a helmet.

Liquor demand

Non-government organisation The Bihar Women's Network on Tuesday demanded complete ban on liquor consumption, and lauded the government's decision of partial prohibition from April 1.

Art exhibition

The art, culture and youth affairs department inaugurated an exhibition of paintings by artist Manju Prasad on Tuesday at Bharatiya Nritya Kala Mandir. Minister Shivchandra Ram inaugurated it.

Symbol change

Patna: The JDU may seek a change in its electoral symbol, the arrow, after Makar Sankranti (January 14). Party national general secretary K.C. Tyagi made the announcement.

Summons

Patna: The high court on Tuesday summoned Vaishali district magistrate and the Vaishali nagar parishad executive officer for giving it false information in a case related to the construction of a temple on nagar parishad land at Bagmali Mohalla in Hajipur.

Bribery cuffs

Motihari: Vigilance sleuths nabbed two clerks, Sanjeev Kumar and Alok Kumar, for taking bribe at the office of the district superintendent of education on Tuesday.

Brick kiln

Patna: Bihar Pollution Control Board has ordered closure of 111 polluting brick kilns across the state.

Protest

Chhapra: The Research Scholars Association of Jai Prakash University has decided to launch an agitation demanding a probe into alleged irregularities in the distance education department of Rajendra College.
