Deputy mayor order

Patna: Former deputy mayor of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) Amravati Devi on Friday sought to quash the high court order to reinstate Roop Narayan Mehta as the deputy mayor of PMC.

The urban development department had ordered Mehta's removal from his post, which the high court set aside in December. Mehta was reinstated as the PMC deputy mayor with the government's order to this effect on December 29, 2015.

Protest

Darbhanga: The LN Mithila University syndicate conducted its meeting amid students' protest on the campus on Friday. The students are protesting for the removal of vice-chancellor Saket Kushwaha.

Body found

Bettiah: Police recovered the body of a woman from the railway tracks on the outskirts of the town on Friday. Two other women were found injured and admitted to a hospital.

MLC slur

Patna: Disqualified JDU MLC Narendra Singh on Friday accused chief minister Nitish Kumar and held him responsible for stripping him of his membership from the upper house.

CAT results

Patna: The results of the Common Admission Test (CAT) were declared on Friday on the official website of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Around 1.80 lakh students had appeared for it.

Eight idols stolen

Biharsharif (PTI): Eight idols were stolen from Nalanda district, a police officer said.

The criminals stole seven idols from Thakurbari temple in Maharajganj village and a precious black stone from a Shiva temple in Tungi village on Thursday night.

The police headquarters has directed all SPs to initiate steps to curb the incidents of theft of ancient idols and artifacts. DGP P K Thakur said that the police last night recovered the idol of a deity, which was stolen from Aurangabad a few days ago.

Lakhisarai (PTI): Armed Maoists torched two tractors of a contractor in a village in Lakhisarai district on Friday.

Arrests

Patna: Police on Friday nabbed Pinky Devi, who had allegedly plotted with her first husband and killed the second. The woman had lodged an FIR on December 31 stating that Amarjeet, her second husband, was missing. In another incident, three personswere caught, allegedly running a prostitution website.

Gang busted

Patna: Police on Friday busted a four-member gang that was wanted in many cases of thefts and loots.

Fake currency

Patna: Sleuths from the directorate of revenue intelligence seized counterfeit currency of Rs 2 lakh face value from a private bus and arrested Rajesh Sheikh of Motipur from Muzaffarpur on Friday.
