IGIMS trauma centre
Patna: Principal health secretary R.K. Mahajan held a review meeting of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences at the institution on Monday. He asked the hospital administration to prepare a project for 200-bed trauma centre.
Mahajan said the health department would fund the project and asked IGIMS officials to take measures to make the emergency wing of the hospital centralised. He ordered increase in the number of beds in the emergency wing from 36 to 200. The hospital administration demanded Rs 50 crore from the principal secretary for this financial year to which he agreed. Sources said health minister Tej Pratap was supposed to attend the review meeting but he skipped it.
Bank fraud
Patna: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday filed a chargesheet in the special CBI court against four persons in connection with financial irregularities leading to loss of Rs 761.68 crore to Canara Bank from December 2014 till now. The accused included suspended divisional manager of Canara Bank (Sasaram division) Pushpendra Kumar Suman and agriculture extension officer of Canara Bank (Sasaram branch).
Murder
Siwan: Rina Devi, a resident of Vajirahva village under the jurisdiction of Dhanauti police outpost, was murdered by unidentified criminals on Sunday night. Her corpse was found from a wheat field on Monday. She was married but was staying at her parents' house. Her brother lodged an FIR against unknown persons.
Sushil barb
Patna: Former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday raised question on the surprise visit of the RJD chief to Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. Modi asked in which capacity the RJD chief visited the health hub and issued directives to its officials.
Salary order
Patna: The district administration on Monday blocked the salary of five block co-operative officers after finding irregularities in their duty. Showcause notices was also served on the erring officials. A note issued by collectorate on Monday said the administration would use mobile tracking system to ascertain the absenteeism of officials.
Protest
Patna: The regional branch of All India Defence Accounts Association on Monday staged a demonstration against the recommendation of the Seventh Pay Commission outside the CDA office. The general secretary of the regional branch of All India Defence Accounts Association, A.K. Suryabanshi, said the members of his association would join the nationwide protest against the Seventh Pay Commission on January 11.
Condolences
Patna: Virendra Jha, the head of Patna University's Maithili department, on Monday expressed condolences over the demise of former Patna College principal Parmeshwar Dayal. Jha said that Dayal was a renowned professor of geography and had written many books on the subject.
Five held for murder
Patna: Police on Monday nabbed five peopleallegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of Rohit Kumar Keshari, a resident of Ashokpuri in the state capital.
Rohit’s decomposed body was recovered on December 19 last year from an area that falls under the jurisdiction of Digha police station.
Cop run over
Sasaram: Shivkant Pandey, an inspector deployed in the DGP’s office in Patna, was run over by a speeding truck on National Highway 2 near Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas district on Monday.

Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation employees would hold a protest at its headquarters on January 11 in support of their long-pending demands, including lifetime family pension and assured career progression scheme benefits among others.
MBBS courses
Patna: The first batch of MBBS (biochemics) got underway at Patna Bio-Chemic Medical College and Research Institute on Monday. The college is registered with Bio-Chemic Education Grant Commission and affiliated with the University of Bio-Chemic Health Sciences.
