Couple's throats slit
Chhapra: A couple, Harendra Sharma (60) and Shiv Kanti Devi (55), of Kanakpur village were killed by criminals on Wednesday night.
Armed criminals slit their throats and fled. The villagers protested in front of Dighwara police station, demanding arrests.
Arrests
Chhapra: Saran police arrested seven criminals within a span of 24 hours, superintendent of police Sataya Veer Singh said on Thursday. He said the notorious gangster, Vijay Kumar Singh alias Munna Thakur, was arrested from his Patna hideout.
Theft
Gaya: Criminals on Thursday broke open the carrier box of a motorcycle and stole Rs 1 lakh and a cheque book from it. The incident took place near Gaya collectorate.

Motihari: A anti-polio drive was launched in the district on Thursday.
Two dead
Siwan: Chandravati Devi of Malahidih village was electrocuted to death and another woman, Jagatpati Devi, sustained injuries on Thursday. Chandravati was using a hand pump when she was electrocuted. Jagatpati suffered injuries while trying to save her.
Medics defer strike
Patna: Junior doctors of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences on Thursday decided to defer their strike.
The medics said: "We are pleased that the district administration has provided round-the-clock security on the college campus since Sunday's incident."

Shot dead
Patna: Jaipal Rai, a former mukhiya (panchayat head) of Bahrampur in Vaishali's Raghopur, was gunned down by criminals at Fatuha in Patna rural on Thursday. Rai's supporters paralysed traffic on NH-30.
Crime ploy
Patna: Police on Thursday claimed that Shaheed, a student of a Bihta-based engineering college, had plotted his own abduction to implicate some people in a fabricated case. Shaheed's relative had lodged a kidnapping case with Bahadurpur police station on December 26.
Demise
Patna: Former Magadh University vice-chancellor and eminent educationist Parmeshwar Dayal (95) died at a private hospital on Thursday after a brief illness. Dayal had written over a dozen books on geography and served as the principal of Patna College. His last rites will be performed at Bans Ghat on Friday.
