Cash source probe

Patna: The Election Commission is investigating the source of huge cash recovered from Calcutta by income tax officials on Thursday.

The money belonged to one Santiago Martin, a person hailing from south India and involved in running an illegal lottery racket. Additional chief electoral officer R. Laxmanan said officials are trying to ascertain whether the seized cash was to be used in the Bihar elections. In addition, police seized over Rs 11 lakh during vehicle checks across the state on Friday.

Rape FIR

Bettiah: Narkatiaganj police on Friday registered an FIR against three residents for allegedly raping a 15-year-old in the Kothibari police station area in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district on Thursday.

Candidate

Patna: The RJD on Friday changed its Chhatapur (in Supaul district) candidate Mohammad Akbar Ali, replacing him with Juhur Alam.

Shot at

Patna: A person was shot at on Friday evening near the Jalalpur canal in Patna rural. Residents caught one of the assailants and thrashed him before he was rescued by cops.

MLA resigns

Patna: Jailed Tarari MLA Sunil Pandey on Friday tendered his resignation from the JDU. In the letter sent to JDU state president Bashishtha Narayan Singh, Sunil said the party did not need honest workers.

Hoax call

Patna: Police traced one of the three cellphone numbers from where a threat call to blow up Patna Junction was placed on Wednesday. Senior superintendent of police Vikas Vaibhav said the number had been verified and that a 13-year-old girl had made the hoax call. 

Contraband 

Patna: The directorate of revenue intelligence recovered over seven quintals of marijuana from a truck in Patna rural on Friday. 

RBI quiz

Patna: Reserve Bank of India would conduct an inter-school quiz on October 14. In Patna, the competition will be held at the Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Patna: A seminar was organised in the city on Friday to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. 

Labourer dead

Patna: A 55-year old person, identified as Suresh Choudhary, died in Patliputra Colony on Friday with residents alleging the daily wager was thrown off a rooftop.

Patna: Rashtriya Lok Samata Party on Friday announced the names of four more candidates — Chandrabhusan Verma (Obra), Rinku Soni (Dehri), Birendra Kushwaha (Kargahar) and Rekha Gupta (Bajpatti).
