Mom & daughter shot over land row

Buxar (PTI): A woman and her two-year-old daughter were allegedly shot dead over a land dispute in the district on Tuesday.

Police said Meena Devi (32) and Dita Kumari were shot dead at their house in Babuganj English village under the jurisdiction of Sikraul police station. Meena's husband Manoj Singh was not home at the time of the attack , said Buxar sub-divisional police officer R.K. Gupta.

He said prima facie, the shooting appeared to be a fallout of a land dispute between Manoj and a neighbour. An FIR has been lodged against three persons.

Register for cowsheds

Patna: The division bench of Justice R.K. Dutta and Justice Sudhir Singh on Tuesday directed the government to computerise the original register of land belonging to the government's 86 cowsheds and provide copies of it to petitioner Vikash Chandra, alias Guddu Baba, and the court. The petitioner had alleged that several plots of land belonging to the state's cowsheds had been encroached upon.

Police transfers

Patna: The government on Tuesday transferred 134 officers of Bihar police service, including additional superintendents of police and deputy superintendents of police (DSP). P.K. Mandal, who was posted as sub-divisional police officer in Motihari, would take charge of Patna Sadar. Kailash Prasad, who held the post of sub-divisional police officer of Madhepura, has been appointed DSP Patna (Town). The DSPs of Sachivalaya, Patna City, Phulwarisharif and law and order have also been transferred. Besides, five IPS officers, including the Patna (rural) superintendent of police, have been transferred as well. Lallan Prasad would replace Harikishore Singh. Anusuiya Ransingh Sahu has been made SP (weaker section, CID).

Truck kills cop

Bhagalpur: Sadanand Singh, a sub-inspector at Adampur police station, was crushed to death by a speeding truck on Monday night. Police said the victim came under the heavy vehicle during night patrolling when he tried to impose a spot-fine on the speeding truck.

Youth dead

Motihari: Pradeep Kumar (18) succumbed to injuries inflicted on him by some curd vendors a couple of days ago, in Patna on Tuesday. The victim was beaten up on Sunday by the vendors after his bike hit their earthen pots.

Subsidy check

Patna: The Congress on Tuesday claimed the government's decision to provide diesel subsidy to farmers in wake of the deficient rainfall in the state was not being delivered on the ground. Spokesperson Harkhu Jha suggested the constitution of all-party monitoring committees at the block-level to oversee the implementation.

Sentence

Chhapra: Additional district judge (IV) Satish Chandra Rai on Tuesday awarded seven years' imprisonment to Prakash Chauhan, a resident of Sindri in Jharkhand, for abducting a minor for marriage.

Patna: The state branch of Indian Medical Association on Tuesday announced its support for the proposed agitationof government doctors on August 16.
