Plea for special courts
Patna: A PIL on Tuesday sought the high court’s directive to let the Central Bureau of Investigation, National Investigation Agency or special investigating team investigate into cases of caste, communal violence, riots or massacre instead of local police.
The petition has been filed by high court lawyer Dinesh Kumar. He requested the court to give direction that all such cases must be tried in special courts and till the conclusion of the trial, the witnesses should be provided security.
Power cut
Patna: Power would be cut in Kadamkuan, Bhattacharya Road, SK Vihar Colony, Brahmpur, Makhdoompur, Haridaspur, Kothwa for three hours from 11am on Wednesday because of maintenance of 11KV feeders. Power supply would also be affected for three hours from 12 noon in the Jai Prakash Nagar and Dashratha Colony areas.
Relief funds
Patna/Gaya: Congress MLAs and MLCs have decided to donate a month’s salary to the chief minister’s relief fund for the thunder squall and earthquake victims in the state, state unit spokesman H.K. Verma said on Tuesday. Power Engineering Services Association president RKP Nirala on Tuesday also said the members would give one day’s salary to the earthquake relief fund. In Gaya, district magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal flagged off a truck carrying relief material for earthquake victims collected by the Red Cross Society.
Cornea surgery
Patna: Rajendra Nagar’s super-speciality hospital for eye has successfully conducted its first corneal transplant surgery on Tribhuvan Rai (35), a resident of Maner, three days ago. Rai was released from the hospital on Tuesday. The hospital superintendent, Naresh Kumar Bhimsariya, said the cornea was sourced from LB Prasad Institute, Hyderabad.
Shot at
Hajipur: Sanjiv Kumar Chaurasia, a 45-year-old restaurant owner, was critically injured on Tuesday morning when criminals opened fire at him on the Kachahari Road. Police said Chaurasia was attacked around 9am.
Freak death
Muzaffarpur: Two children were killed and another suffered serious burn injuries when lightning struck them at Rohua village in Musahari block of the district on Tuesday.
Cong demand
Patna: State Congress president Ashok Choudhary on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the governor, demanding the recent thunder squall and earthquake be declared as national calamities by the Centre.

Gaya: Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel on Tuesday arrested a suspected Maoist area commander, Manoj Bhuian.
