Land row claims three in a family

Katihar: An eight-year-old boy and his parents were brutally beaten up before being shot dead, allegedly by neighbours, in the early hours of Tuesday at their residence at Kishanpur village in the district. 

The deceased were identified as Vijay Yadav (38), his wife, Kamala Devi (32), and their son, Prasanjeet Kumar. Vijay was involved in a dispute with a neighbour, Narayan Shah, over a small stretch of government land. Shah and his family members allegedly attacked the sleeping Yadav family and shot them dead. 

A case of murder was lodged against Narayan Shah and his family members. 

Superintendent of police Kshatraneel Singh said: “Most of the families in the village have homes on government land, while the government officials have not done the actual land settlements yet. The victim’s family was staying in house constructed beside the disputed land.” 

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The police have registered a case of murder against eight named accused of which three have been nabbed, while the others are absconding. 

FIR follows acid attack

Samastipur: A 45-year-old woman at Motipur village in Samastipur district suffered serious burn injuries when a neighbour poured acid on her body on Monday. The victim, identified as Meena Devi, runs a grocery store. She has been admitted to the sadar hospital. Police said an FIR was lodged against one Suresh Sah based on the victim’s statement. The accused is absconding. 

Bribe cuffs

Sasaram: A vigilance bureau team on Tuesday arrested Rohtas civil surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar Singh on the charge of accepting Rs 1 lakh as bribe from one Deepak Kumar Singh for sending a proposal for regularisation of his service. Deepak was appointed as assistant at the Dinara primary health centre in Rohtas district on compassionate grounds in 2013. 

Woman found

Hajipur: Police found a newly wed woman from Gaighat in Muzaffarpur district on Tuesday, three days after she went missing from Senduari village in Vaishali district. The woman’s husband was killed on Saturday night. The woman said she was being taken to Darbhanga by her relatives but she managed to escape and reported the matter to Gaighat police. 

Suicide 

Sitamarhi: A woman allegedly set herself on fire, along with her minor son, and died at Saurbhar village under the jurisdiction of Bela police station of the district late on Monday night. Police suspect family dispute prompted the victim to kill herself. 

Maoist arrest

Muzaffarpur: Nine Maoists, including self-styled sub-zonal commander Sukhari Mahto, were arrested from the Muzaffarpur-Sheohar border on Tuesday. Several posters, Naxalite literature and two country-made pistols were recovered during the raid at the Maoists’ hideouts. Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police Ranjit Kumar Mishra said Mahto was wanted in over 12 cases, including an attack on the petrol pump of former BJP MLA Ram Surat Rai near Bochahan in Muzaffarpur district. 

Kids rescued

Motihari: Police recovered two children, including an infant, from different places in East Champaran. An infant, kidnapped from Majhaulia in West Champaran on Monday afternoon, was recovered from Raxaul in the evening. Ten-year-old boy Rajan Kumar, abducted from Adapur around 8am on Tuesday, was recovered from the Chhauradano area. 

Award for IPS officer

Patna: Bihar-cadre IPS officer Nishant Kumar Tiwary received the best electoral practice award 2014 from the chief election commissioner of India H.S. Brahma at a function in Guwahati on Tuesday for conducting trouble-free general elections in Maoist-hit Gaya. 

He was also given a cheque of Rs 25,000. In 2009, the 2005 batch officer was rewarded by the election commission for conducting peaceful elections in West Champaran.  

HC summons

Patna: A high court bench on Tuesday, while hearing a contempt petition, on Tuesday directed agriculture production commissioner and agriculture joint secretary to appear before it on April 1 in a case related to non-payment of salary and arrears according to provisions of assured progressive scheme to some employees of the department. 

School order

Patna: A high court bench on Tuesday upheld an its earlier order in a case related to appointment of primary teachers in government schools. The state had appointed 34,540 teachers in 2011-12 of which 2,413 were found with fake certificates. 

New trains

Patna: East Central Railway would run special trains to deal with the expected summer rush. Indore-Patna Weekly Premium Superfast Special train would run between Indore-Patna from April 5 to June 29 . 

Ambulance

Patna: The 102 ambulance workers continued their strike for the third consecutive day on Tuesday. 

Appointment

Patna: Rashtriya Lok Samta Party national secretary-general Shivraj Singh on Tuesday appointed Seeman Saxena as the national secretary. 

Agriculture

Patna: Agriculture scientists ended their hunger strike on Tuesday with the intervention of agriculture minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary.
