BJP issue

Motihari: The BJP is likely to make the anti-cow-slaughter legislation a major issue in the state in the run-up to Assembly elections later this year.

The party is determined to pursue the issue in states that are yet to have legislation to this effect, national convener of the BJP's cow development cell, Mayankeshwar Singh, said on Saturday. After Haryana, Rajasthan could see a similar bill soon, he said.

RLSP rally

Patna: The Rashtriya Lok Samata Party would organise a Kisan Naujawan maha rally at Gandhi Maidan on April 5. RLSP chief and Union minister of state for HRD Upendra Kushwaha said on Saturday that at the rally, they would expose Nitish Kumar's fast against the land bill, which "is pro-farmer and pro-development".

Inflation talks

Patna: Development economist Pulapre Balkrishnan discussed the effects of inflation on the country's growth rate with Chandragupt Institute of Management, Patna students on Saturday. He was in the city as chief guest and speaker at a session on "Macroeconomics Reversal in India" at the management institution. Balkrishnan is the recipient of the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for distinguished contribution to development studies (2014).

Dalit meet

Patna: Union minister for food, consumer affairs and public distributionand Lok Samata Party chief Ramvilas Paswan said he would organise a Dalit conference in Varanasi on April 6.

Tension over murder

Hajipur: Tension gripped Senduari village in Vaishali on Sunday after the recovery of the body of a youth, whose newly wed wife is missing after the incident.

The youth was allegedly picked up on Saturday evening from his house and subsequently bludgeoned to death. Senior administrative and police officials were camping at the village in the wake of tension. The youth had earlier eloped with a girl whom he later married.

Nitish invite

Patna: The Union minister for road transport has invited chief minister Nitish Kumar to be the chief guest of the foundation laying ceremony of the Patna-Faya-Dhobi Road on NH83 and widening of Chakia to Seohar of NH104 at Madhuban on March 26.

Ambulance

Patna: Employees associated with the 102 ambulance service went on an indefinite hunger strike at R Block roundabout on Sunday and claimed that the health department did not provide them employment after it terminated the contract of private firm Dr Jain Video on Wheels Ltd last year over payment issues.

Patna: Bihar Marwari Sammelan Shiksha Samiti (BMSSS) organized an event to pay tribute to late Dr Ram Manohar Lohia at Dak Bunglow road. The programme was inaugurated by former director of BMSSS Kailash Prasad Jhunjhunwala along with the director of samiti Mrinal Jhunjhunwala.

The examinees were identified as Laxmi Kumari, Bharti Kumari, Bebi Kumari and Jooli Kumari, were taken to sadar hospital for treatment. Residents of Kamla Kanih village, about 295km northeast of Patna, the students were staying in a rented room in the town. Doctors at sadar hospital said the students were suffering from weakness and cold that mostly developed in examinees under tremendous pressure of examination phobia. Kumar later lodged an FIR with the Town police station in this connection.

Patna: Students of Arcade Business College celebrated the seventh birth anniversary of poet Kashinath Pandey at Kalidas Rangalaya on Sunday. Singer Pallavi Vishwas groove the audience by presenting various forms of songs including dadra, thumri, holi and chaiti.

Bettiah: BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi addressed a Tharu Maha-Sammelan organised on the premises of a high school at Jamuniya in Gaunaha block in West Champaran on Sunday. In a bid to allure about three lakh voters residing under Valmiki Nagar, Ramnagar and Sikta assembly segments in this thickly Tharu populated pocket of the state, the BJP leader charged the JDU government of Bihar for cheating the Tharus. The crowd present on the occasion consisted of around six thousand people

Motihari: BJP president Mangal Pandey charged the government for returning a larger part of Rs 7,000 crores to the Centre that was meant for development of Bihar and remained unused during the current financial year.Pandey, was addressing a press conference here on Sundaymorning. The Prime minister is conscious regarding the all round development for the population of about 11 crore in Bihar, as he has knows well that development of India rests on the development of Bihar.

Gaya: Akhauri Onkarnath alias Mohan Shrivastava was elected uncontested president of Gaya district Kayastha Mahasabha today for second successive term. Shrivastava, also deputy mayor of Gaya Municipal Corporation (GMC) said own building of the mahasabha will be constructed in Gaya town that will be given for marriage and other functions on a no profit no loss basis.
