Bikers snatch cash

Muzaffarpur: Three bike-borne criminals shot at Pankaj Kumar and looted Rs 2 lakh at gunpoint in Bhagwanpur area under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station on Friday afternoon.

Pankaj, an employee of a finance company, was on way to the bank to deposit money when the incident occurred. The criminals fired several rounds to intimidate the residents who gathered there to protest the loot. Police have launched a manhunt. Pankaj suffered bullet injuries in his back and was admitted to a private hospital.

Graft arrest

Patna (PTI): The vigilance department on Friday nabbed the Buxar district agriculture officer, Prem Shankar Ram, on charges of taking Rs 1 lakh in bribe.

Accident

Muzaffarpur: Two persons died in Harnahi village under Baroraj police station when a truck bulldozed into a roadside house on Baroraj-Motipur road on Friday. The bodies of the deceased, Vivek Kumar and Harendra Bhagat, were later sent to the Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. Police seized the truck and nabbed its driver. Peeved villagers manhandled two policemen who arrived there to control the crowd.

Chhath drive

Patna: The secretary of Sir Ganesh Dutt Vichar Manch, Ajay Kumar, on Friday demanded that a cleanliness drive be launched at different ghats in the city before Chhath. He also demanded that the district administration mark unsafe ghats, declaring them dangerous.

NTPC function

Patna: A consumer awareness programme was organised by NTPC, Kahalgaon, on Friday.

The organisation will shortly put up 6 lakh tonnes of dry fly ash for sale through e-tender. Thirty buyers attended the event.

Bank protest

Patna: United Forum of IDBI Officers and Employees, Bihar, on Friday demonstrated at the regional office protesting the government's move to privatise the bank.
