Penalty heat on officials
• GAYA: Magadh division commissioner Jitendra Shrivastava has imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 each on seven senior officials of the division for non-compliance of an order passed under Public Grievance Redressal (PGR) Act. The officials, who have been fined, include divisional forest officer Gaya, district education officer, Gaya, Gaya Municipal Corporation city commissioner, district programme officer of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Gaya, executive engineers of rural works division, Sherghati, and minor irrigation departments respectively and district manager of State Food Corporation, Jehanabad. While hearing the 40 appeals - filed earlier by complainants following non-compliance of the order passed by public grievance redress cell at district level - on Friday, the divisional commissioner expressed great dissatisfaction and imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 each on the officials. This is the maximum penalty under the PGR Act.
• NAWADA: Three labourers were killed and two others suffered injuries when the roof of an illegal mica mine collapsed on them at Sawaiya Tand village in Nawada district on Saturday. Police said the incident occurred when the victims were engaged in illegal mining. The Nawada additional superintendent of police, Alok Kumar, said the relatives of those killed did not inform the police about the incident and disposed of the bodies. The injured were being treated at a private hospital.
