Patna: Patna traffic police have planned the route for Vice-President M. Venkaiah Nai-du's visit to Patna on Thursday to inaugurate the three-day Bihar Diwas function at Gandhi Maidan.

Naidu will reach Patna at 3.35pm and after receiving the guard of honour from the state police and meeting VIPs he will leave for the main venue of the function, Gandhi Maidan. He is scheduled to reach Gandhi Maidan at 4.30pm, where he will spend one-and-a-half hours.

Naidu apart, Governor Satya Pal Malik, chief minister Nitish Kumar, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, education minister Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma and others will also be on the dais.

The theme of this year's Bihar Diwas is "Champaran Satyagrah: Centenary Year", thus marking the closing ceremony of Champaran Satyagraha. Expectedly, the main stage will have imprints of Gandhi's movement.

Because of VIP movement on Bailey road, traffic movement will be restricted from the airport to Gandhi Maidan on Bailey Road, 15 minutes before Naidu's cavalcade passes.

From the airport, the vice-president's cavalcade will pass through Peer Ali Marg, Patel roundabout and Rajendra Chowk.

At Rajendra Chowk, he will pay floral tributes to the country's first President, Rajendra Prasad. From there, his cavalcade will pass through Karpoori roundabout, Eco Park, Hartali More, High Court Mor, Income Tax roundabout, Dakbungalow, Fraser road, JP roundabout before reaching Gandhi Maidan.

A similar traffic plan will be in place when the vice-president leaves Gandhi Maidan for the airport. Fifteen minutes before his departure, there will be similar traffic restrictions. The vice-president will leave for Delhi around 6.25pm.

District magistrate Kumar Ravi on Wednesday held a meeting with officials over security arrangements for the visit.
