Patna, March 19: The state cabinet today gave its approval to the proposal of filling up the vacant posts of lecturers in the state’s universities and colleges affiliated to them through Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).

“The cabinet gave its nod for conducting the teachers’ recruitment examination through the BPSC,” a top official said. He, however, refused to share the total number of vacancies and when the examination would be conducted.

A source said the selection of lecturers (now assistant professors) would be made following the University Grants Commission criteria.

There are around 3,300 vacant posts after the completion of the rationalisation process in the universities, which are at present functioning with less than half of their sanctioned strength of over 12,000 teachers.

The cabinet also sanctioned Rs 243.27 crore for developing the Ganga riverfront in the city, along with a 3.5-km-long promenade. “The tender would be floated by Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation by the end of April,” a source told The Telegraph.

The cabinet today took over 36 decisions. It sanctioned Rs 39 crore for setting up dedicated feeder for agriculture in Naubatpur block of Patna. It also made online deposit of earnest money and bid processing fee mandatory to strengthen e-tendering.
