Boy kills self over FB fracas

The alleged suicide by 15-year-old Suman Kumar, a student of Class X at Mahadev Lal Shanker Lal Kataruka Saraswati Vidyamandir in Kahalgaon, has revealed how the misuse of social networking sites.

Bhagalpur: The alleged suicide by 15-year-old Suman Kumar, a student of Class X at Mahadev Lal Shanker Lal Kataruka Saraswati Vidyamandir in Kahalgaon, has revealed how the misuse of social networking sites.

Family members found Suman's body hanging inside his locked room at the family residence at Patahpur on May 20.

However, his father, Shambhu Mandal, who had lost his job as a bus driver with the same school, blamed the principal and others responsible for the incident.

Indu Devi, the boy's mother, in her complaint to Kahalgaon police station, accused school principal Bimal Pandey, contractor Ratan Prasad Singh and six of Suman's classmates for abetment to suicide. She alleged that some of the classmates and other youths raided her house on May 20 and beat up her son, warning him not to chat with a girl classmate or post on her Facebook page.

"My son was very embarassed about the incident. When we questioned Suman about the allegations levelled by his classmates, Suman said someone had created a fake Facebook account in his name and created nuisance in his name," said Indu.

She also accused the school principal of threatening her husband with destroying their family.

Principal Pandey feigned ignorance about Suman's case but admitted that he had sacked Shambhu two-three years ago for reporting to work drunk.

Kahalgaon sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Dilnawaj Ahmad said police had started probing the incident and had seized Suman's mobile. "Our cyber cell will probe whether Suman's Facebook account was fake or not and if it was fake people instrumental behind creating such an account."

He added that the police would also investigate the possible involvement of others in the case. "No arrest, however, has been made in the case," said the SDPO.

Cuffs on goon

Wakil Mandal, a dreaded goon carrying a cash award of Rs 25,000 on his head, was arrested from the diara area in Kahalgaon on Monday during a special drive launched under the leadership of Kahalgaon sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Dilnawaj Ahmad.

Police recovered a country-made pistol and 15 live cartridges from his possession. Ahmad said Wakil faced almost 25 criminal cases.
