A teenaged boy hanged himself at his home while a girl jumped to her death from a railway overbridge in two separate incidents on Thursday.
Family members found 18-year-old Aditya alias Akash, who was preparing for a bachelor of business administration course at a private coaching institute near Dakbungalow roundabout, hanging at his home in New Yaarpur area under Gardanibagh police station in the early hours.
Later in the day, around 1pm, a girl aged 15-16 years jumped from a rail overbridge near railway crossing number 15, under the jurisdiction of Sachivalaya police station. The girl had not been identified till the filing of report.
In the first incident, the boy’s family rushed him to a private hospital in Shastrinagar. He was in a critical state and died soon after. The hospital administration informed the police who took a statement from the boy’s father.
“The boy’s father, Dinesh Singh, said the coaching institute had rusticated the boy two days ago and the parents had not been informed. The boy was afraid to disclose the same to his parents and mentioned it in his suicide note,” an officer at Shastrinagar police station said. The boy was not in his senses when he reached the hospital, where attending doctors declared him brought dead.
“The father’s statement has been taken and the police will talk to officials of the coaching centre in this regard. The boy was under lot of pressure after being removed from the institute,” the officer said. The boy’s father is a trader.
“At present, the police cannot give more details as investigations are going on. The body has been sent for post-mortem,” the officer said.
Hours after the incident, Sachivalaya police received information that a minor had jumped off a bridge.
“Eye-witnesses said the girl looked harried and did not stop or hesitate once before taking the extreme step,” an officer at the Sachivalaya police station told The Telegraph. “She died on the spot. The girl appears to be 15-16 years of age. The police have sent her body for post-mortem. She is yet to be identified and no one has come forward to claim or identify her body. The police are making efforts to identify her and investigations are on,” the officer further said.
Just a month ago, a 14-year-old girl had hanged herself to death as she was weak in studies and was under pressure from her parents to do well academically. A resident of New Patliputra, Rajaswi Rana’s father had woken her up around 4am on February 24 to study. An hour later, the family found her hanging from the roof. On February 4, 25-year-old Rahul Aditya alias Bittu, who had been rusticated from the Indian School of Mines (ISM) in Dhanbad, had hanged himself to death at his home in Neelkanth Colony.
