The personnel of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have taken up the task of regulating chaotic traffic in Raxaul, a sub-divisional town of East Champaran district around 210km north of Patna.

Located on the India-Nepal border, traffic snarl was a perennial problem of the town. Reason: Movement of heavy vehicles on NH-28A, passing through the town.

Things, however, witnessed a positive change in the past one week after SSB personnel took up the job of regulating traffic between Raxaul and Nepal.

'According to the directive from our bosses, our men took up the responsibility of regulating traffic since February 9,' Rakesh Sinha, the commandant of SSB's 13th battalion, said , adding that the SSB personnel were also carrying out regular work of maintaining vigil on people's movement across the border. SSB is primarily responsible for manning the porous India-Nepal border.

According to the commandant, the SSB first started regulating traffic of Raxaul during the 'Traffic Management Week' between February 9 and 16, but now it has resolved to extend the drive into 'Traffic Management Fortnight'.

'The present drive would end on February 24. Next, we would take up the checking and frisking work on this important border,' Rakesh said.

The SSB commandant expressed gratitude to the customs, district administration and police for their valuable contributions towards the success of the mission taken up against the traffic jam.

Raxaul sub-divisional magistrate Sayeeda Khatoon lauded the work of SSB. Residents praised its initiative too.

'It feels good to have a sense of order on Raxaul road, which otherwise used to be the scene of perennial snarls. We hope that the police would take a cue from the efforts of the SSB,' Raxaul resident Anil Sinha said.
