Purnea, April 8: A body found in a maize field a week earlier at Jiyanganj village under Sarsi police station of Purnea district was identified today.

The body has been identified as that of Ram Nath Mahato, 70, a retired engineer with the Indian Oil Corporation, Barauni. Mahato’s wife Shailaya Devi identified the body through clothes and photographs taken before the last rites at Sarsi.

On April 1, the Sarsi police found a body in a maize field, with throat slit and palms severed. The killers had smeared acid on the face and then disposed the body in the field.
