Bhagalpur: The cooking gas cylinder blast that killed three persons here on Monday was the result of rampant violation of government rules, Bhagalpur divisional commissioner Rajesh Kumar said on Tuesday.
"Mushrooming of community/marriage halls in the city came to light after last evening's incident," Rajesh said. "Illegal supply of LPG cylinders by the vendors also came to light. I have instructed the district officials concerned to investigate such irregularities." He also instructed the superintendent of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital to give free medicines to the injured in Monday's blast.
This came after a relative of a victim complained to the media that they have to purchase medicines with their own money.
Bhagalpur district magistrate Pranav Kumar has ordered a probe into the blast at a marriage hall in the heart of town.
"I have instructed the sub-divisional officer (SDO sadar) Ashish Narayan to conduct detailed investigation of all such points and give a report within 24 hours," Pranav said on Tuesday.
The DM promised action against community/marriage halls that operate without valid registration.
"We will also ask the LPG companies to take action against their dealers here if they are found practising illegal business," he added.
The DM said the police found a huge stock of LPG cylinders from a spot adjacent to a dealer of Indane gas company.
"It is reported that the marriage hall where the mishap took place is also owned by the owner of the gas agency," the DM said. "We are probing whether storing cylinders and opening a marriage hall on those premises was illegal or not."
Three of the injured in Monday's blast have been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital.
