| TOUGH TALK: MIT |
Muzaffarpur, Sept. 4: Muz-affarpur Institute of Techno-logy (MIT) is pulling up socks to curb unruly activities on campus.
The institute has decided to take stern action against college students by awarding them black dots for their misconduct and any act that would lead to the defamation of the institution. If it comes to effect, renowned companies are likely to shun the resumes from students having black dots on degrees.
Taking note of the clash between two groups of students on September 2, MIT’s disciplinary committee has also slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 on each of 164 students.
The principal of the MIT, Dhuruv Prasad, told The Telegraph: “For the first time, the disciplinary committee of the institute has slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 on 164 students, who have been found fighting on the campus. The students, all of who reside in hostels, fought with each other to settle scores on various issues.”
Prasad pointed out that the college administration is trying to understand the reasons behind the clash.
However, superintendent of police (city) Manoj Kumar said: “The exact reason behind the fight is still not clear. But the fight was serious.”
The Barhampura police have lodged an FIR against the students to tighten the noose against the wrongdoers. Police investigations in the matter are in progress.
Meanwhile, the Barhampura police have deployed force on the MIT campus and have intensified patrolling. The committee has also served a showcause notices to the 164 students and has sought replies from them within three to four days.
The committee has also planned to collect written undertakings from the guardians of the students. The committee has also told the students to ask their guardians to appear before the members of the disciplinary committee.
Sources said the committee felt that the clash has tarnished the image of the institute besides posing a serious law and order problem. The principal said the disciplinary committee would sit again in a couple of days to take a final decision on the students.
