Bhagalpur: A biker shot at Sugandh Jha, the district vice-president of the Bharatiya Yuva Morcha, here on Friday afternoon.

Police suspect old rivalry led to the attack.

Deputy superintendent of police (city) Rajbansh Singh said 35-year-old Jha, a resident of Sardho in Sabour block, was shot at from close range. The bullet hit Jha's right hand. He was admitted in Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger.

Jha later told the police that he was returning from Mirachak in east Bhagalpur in his car when a biker intercepted him around 1.30pm and asked for an address. "As I rolled down the window, he started firing at me," he said, adding that he is preparing for the coming Lok Sabha polls and his opponents had conspired to kill him.

Singh said: "Jha is a property dealer and residents said he has old enmity. We are examining the reason."
