Patna, March 18: Sitting alone on the Assembly lawns for 25 hours for fulfilment of his five demands, RJD MLA Dinesh Kumar Singh this morning found sympathisers in seven BJP legislators.

Dinesh had started his indefinite dharna on Tuesday around 10am. None from the RJD - supporting the JDU government - met him yesterday or this morning. The legislators of the BJP - the main Opposition party in the state - walked up to him around 11am and expressed their solidarity with his demands for jobs to the people of Sankhyiki Swayam Sevak Sangh, conservation of Veer Keur Singh fort, embankment on Banasa, Dulaurcher and Sheopurcher rivers, installation of 100 hand-pumps and procurement of paddy in Bhojpur district.

A little over six hours after the BJP MLAs' courtesy visit, RJD legislature party leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui and parliamentary affairs minister Shravan Kumar met Dinesh and assured him that the government would seriously consider his demands. After getting the assurance, the RJD MLA ended his indefinite dharna at 6pm.

Dinesh, the RJD's Jagdishpur MLA, is famous for his unique demonstrations. He had hogged limelight in the past for entering the Assembly premises with four bottles of liquor.

This time, he had displayed all his five demands on a 20 feet banner. But his party MLAs ignored him at least till the seven BJP legislators - Gyanchand Manjhi (Garkha), Ashok Kumar Singh (Paaru), Chitranjan Kumar (Arwal), Virendra Singh (Wazirganj), Usha Vidyarthi (Paliganj), Nitin Navin (Bankipore) and Shyam Deo Paswan (Bodhgaya) - sat with him in support of his demands. The Opposition MLAs even shouted slogans against the government in support of his demands.

Justifying their support to the RJD legislator, BJP MLA Vidyarthi said: 'The issues raised by Dinesh are related to people's problems and we cannot ignore them. It does not matter whether a person is in the Opposition or with the ruling party. What matters the most are the issues that need to be resolved.'

BJP's Arwal MLA Chittaranjan said: 'We all are extending him full support and his demands are genuine. The Nitish Kumar government cannot run away from its responsibilities.'

The Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Nand Kishore Yadav, enquired about Dinesh's health around 4pm today and assured him of raising his demands in the House. But none from the RJD asked him about his health.

A senior RJD leader, requesting anonymity, told The Telegraph : 'We feel Dinesh just wants to be in the limelight and that is the reason he gets involved in the acts like demonstrating on the Assembly lawns. There is proper platform to raise his issues. This (demonstrating on the Assembly lawns) is certainly not the way to protest and we do not want to become a part of his drama.'

Asked about the RJD leaders' cold shoulder to him, Dinesh said: 'What can I say on this? Only they can answer. I am not bothered about them. I just want my demands to be met with. I have raised these issues for the past one year but nothing has happened till now. So, I decided to take this step.'
