Patna: BJP leader Suraj Sah, a ward councillor in Siwan, was shot at early on Sunday morning when he was at a meeting to resolve a dispute.
Sah, 35, was rushed to Siwan sadar hospital for treatment where his condition is stated to be stable. Police said three youths riding a motorbike reached the spot around 8am and fired at Sah, a resident of Mahdeva locality, when he was attending a meeting of residents after a clash over construction of road and drains in the locality.
Tension gripped the town since the attack, and as the news spread, a number of Sah's supporters assembled on the sadar hospital premises and demanded immediate arrest of the criminals involved in the daylight firing.
Based on information provided by the residents, a team from the Siwan town police station conducted a raid and arrested Durga Chauhan, one of the three assailants.
Chauhan later revealed the names of his associates but they are still evading arrest.
Siwan additional superintendent of police Kartikey Sharma said raids were carried out at different hideouts of the criminals.
In another incident, the police arrested Akhilesh Kumar Mahto and Santosh Singh on Saturday for allegedly attacking a police team under the jurisdiction of Taraiya police station in Siwan district.
An FIR was lodged against Akhilesh and four others on the statement of Taraiya police station house officer Manoj Kumar.
The criminals had attacked the police when they had gone to conduct a raid at Andharbari village to arrest Sunil Kumar Mahto on Friday.
