HC stays hooch fine
Patna: The high court division bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Anil Kumar Upadhyay on Wednesday stayed the government's decision to impose collective fine on villagers of Khajurbanni locality in Gopalganj - where 18 people died after drinking hooch in August 2016 - for violating the prohibition law.

Muzaffarpur: A video of a woman purportedly thrashing the circle officer of Gaighat block was widely circulated on social networking sites on Wednesday. The woman has accused the officer, Nishikant, of sexually harassing her on the pretext of providing her a job in the block office, while he complained that the woman came to his office for land mutation and created a ruckus.
Hotel relief
Patna: The high court division bench on Wednesday stayed the government's decision to confiscate a hotel in Muzaffarpur after three bottles of liquor were found during a raid there in August last year. The owner of the hotel, Chandralok Continental, had filed a petition. The court ruled that the government cannot confiscate the property just on recovering a few bottles of liquor from the hotel, and directed it to file a counter affidavit in four weeks.

Patna: Divisional commissioner Anand Kishor on Wednesday held a review meeting of the waterlogging situation in the city, along with preparatory measures taken keeping floods in mind. He directed all the officials to remain alert and complete pending works including de-silting drains in time.

Frauds held
Patna: Patna police on Wednesday bust a gang that looted people after drugging them. Four persons including a woman were arrested in this connection. The gang would offer unsuspecting people food laced with drugs and then loot them.
Teacher awards
Patna: The state education department on Wednesday submitted a list of eight teachers for the President's award, to be given on the occasion of Teacher's Day on September 5. Of the eight teachers, three are from secondary schools and five from elementary schools.
SP catches ganja traders
Purnea (PTI): The Purnea superintendent of police (SP) Nishant Tiwari on Wednesday caught five persons engaged in illegal trade in ganja. Wearing a helmet, Tiwari rode a motorcycle with a few plainclothes policemen to different locations and caught five persons engaged in illegal ganja trade.
