Civic body probe

Patna: Special vigilance judge Daanpal Singh on Tuesday directed the superintendent of state investigation bureau to inquire into the accusation against Mayor Afzal Imam, ward commissioner Abha Lata, Binod Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Sumitra advertising and Streax-N-Style advertisers after hearing the complaint petition filed by deputy mayor Roop Narayan .

The court fixed the next date for hearing on the complaint petition on February 23.

Blanket cause

Patna: Kanti Bijlee Utpadan Nigam Limited, a joint venture firm of NTPC and Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd, on Wednesdaydistributed blankets among people.

Patna: Kapindra Singh, a sub-inspector at Jakkanpur police station, was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 20,000.

Patna: One suspect was arrested from Danapur for alleged involvement in a loot incident.

Gaya: The twin cities of Gaya and Bodhgaya have received Rs 40.2 crore Under HRIDAYA (heritage city development and augmentation yojana).

Accused

Patna: Raju Khan alias Farid Khan, a prime accused in the killing of four members of the fishermen community at Khiri Mor village in Patna rural on December 15, was arrested from Imamganj in Gaya on Wednesday.

Eight in net

Patna, Jan. 21: Eight persons, including the kingpin of an inter-district gang Rajiv Kumar Yadav, were arrested today from Raghopur in Vaishali district.

Seven motorcycles, 11 cellphones and three master keys were recovered from them. The raid was carried out under the leadership of city SP (east) Sudhir Kumar Porika on a tip-off about the gang involved in theft of bikes from the premises of Nalanda Medical College and Hospital.

Patna: Samastipur railway divisional manager's office has received a letter demanding Rs1 crore as extortion money.

One killed

Motihari: Thug Yadav, a farmer of Shripur village in the district, was brutally beaten to death by Brij Kishore Prasad and his father at Madhopur village in West Champaran. A land dispute is said to be the reason behind the murder. Brij Kishore is a ward councillor of the East Champaran district board.

Chant

Gopalganj: BJP MP from Gopalganj Janak Ram on Wednesday said hehad not decided to stop chanting of Vande Mataram. He was reacting to the agitation staged by Bajrang Dal and ABVP activists against him and MLA Ram Pravesh Rai over this issue.
