PIL on vet college
• Patna: The high court, hearing a PIL filed by activist Guddu Baba, on Wednesday directed the Bihar Veterinary College principal to file an affidavit on the nature of encroachment at the institution. Guddu Baba told the court that the encroachment encompasses hostels, staff quarters and unused land and houses have been constructed illegally there.

• Patna: Katihar MP Tariq Anwar on Wednesday said the railway ministry has accepted his demand to double the railway tracks from Katihar to Mukuria and Katihar to Kumedpur.

• Patna: District magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal on Wednesday inspected Danapur and Maner blocks in Patna district to check the status of open defecation-free drive in the villages.
CM on reforms
• Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday reiterated his intention to run a strong, statewide campaign against the dowry system and child marriage. He was speaking at an event in Purnea district.
BJP jab
• Patna: Senior BJP leader Prem Kumar on Wednesday accused chief minister Nitish Kumar of destroying the lives of students in Bihar. He alleged that matriculation copies were being evaluated by middle school teachers in violation of Bihar School Examination Board rules.
IPS letter
Patna: Amitabh Kumar Das, a 1994 batch IPS officer, has written to principal secretary, home, Amir Subhani, asking to be promoted directly to the rank of inspector-general in the wake of departmental proceedings being dropped against him. Das, at present posted with the civil defence as SP-cum-assistant commissioner, was facing disciplinary action on being accused of immoral behaviour.

Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad said he will hold a rally at Gandhi Maidan in August to bring all opposition parties on one platform to defeat the BJP.
Fuel drive
Patna: Food and consumer protection minister Madan Sahni on Wednesday announced that the government was toying with the idea of inspecting petrol pumps the way it is done in Uttar Pradesh - cheating consumers by giving less fuel. Sahni said so far, no complaints have come to the department but the government would take precautionary measures.

Firing action
Patna: District magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal on Wednesday said stern action will be taken against people who open fire in wedding and other celebrations. Agarwal said the arms licences would be cancelled. The decision has been taken in the wake of numerous complaints at his office of firing at such functions.
Marijuana haul
Patna: Three persons were arrested with 50kg marijuana while travelling in an air-conditioned coach (S4) of the Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express near Godaniganj railway station in Saran district late on Tuesday night. Railway protection force inspector Javed Ahmad on Wednesday said the consignment was to be delivered to Naugachhia in Bhagalpur district.
Blood racket
Patna: The Patna police have arrested a man, Indu Bhushan Sinha, for illegally running a blood bank at Makhania Kuan. Sinha used to collect blood from poor people for anything between Rs 300 to Rs 500 and selling the same in the market at a much higher rate.
