Ex-drug officer's assets
Patna: The Patna zonal unit of the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday attached former state drug controller Y.K. Jaiswal's movable and immovable properties worth Rs 1.15 crore. The attached property include shares, life insurance policies worth Rs 90 lakh, five plots in Varanasi and a house and two office spaces in Patna.
The state vigilance investigation bureau had conducted a raid on Jaiswal in 2007 over corruption charges. He was chargesheeted in 2009, becoming one of the top officials to be booked since Nitish Kumar launched his anti-corruption drive in 2007.
Bail reject
Patna: The vigilance court of Madhukar Kumar on Tuesday rejected the bail petition of IAS officer Sudhir Kumar and his sister-in-law Manju Devi in connection with the Bihar State Staff Selection Commission scam. The prosecution lawyer opposed the bail plea.
Protest
Patna: Members of Bihar state pharmacist association went on an indefinite dharna on Tuesday demanding among others registration of all medical shops, regular appointment of pharmacists in government hospitals and regular audit of accounts of the Bihar state pharmacy council.
Unrest
Patna: Police fired in the air to disperse a mob in Nawada town after the people indulged in stone pelting and arson on Tuesday. No one was injured in the firing but additional security forces have been deployed as precaution.
Maoist held
Patna: A hardcore Maoist, Shyam Marandi alias Manoj, was arrested from Jamui with an AK-56 assault rifle and hand grenades on Tuesday. Jamui superintendent of police (SP) Jayant Kant said Marandi was arrested from his hideout on the Jamui-Banka border where the rebels had assembled to carry out a major operation.
Criminals held
Khagaria:Two hardened criminals - Sheetal Yadav and Rajesh Yadav - were arrested by special task force personnel from Pachania village under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station on Tuesday. Police said they were wanted in over 10 cases of extortion and robbery in Munger, Khagaria and Lakhisarai districts.
Drug peddlers
Aurangabad: Police arrested two drug peddlers from Barun police station area and seized narcotics worth over Rs.1 crore on Tuesday. Sanaullah, a resident of Aurangabad, and his associate Birendra Singh were later produced in court, which remanded them to 14 days in judicial custody.
