Man burnt alive
Patna, March 26: Manoj Kumar Choudhary (30) was burnt alive at Tower Chowk in Darbhanga yesterday, allegedly after an altercation with a group over property. Additional superintendent of police Dilnawaz Ahmad said five people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Five injured
Patna: At least five labourers suffered serious injuries when a portion of a bridge in Sheikhpura district collapsed on them on Sunday. The workers were rushed to a local government hospital where the condition of two was critical. The bridge was being constructed in an area under Barbigha police station in the district. A complaint has been lodged against the contractor.
Gas dealer threat
Patna: Amod Kumar alias Pappu, an LPG dealer from Motihari in East Champaran, has been threatened allegedly for failing to pay Rs 7 lakh as extortion to a local gang. Three criminals and residents of Bajaria in East Champaran district, identified as Dipu Singh, Sunny Singh and Vicky Singh, have been made named accused in an FIR lodged with the Madhuban
police station of the district. No arrests have been made so far.
Liquor haul
Patna: Dhanarua police seized 489 bottles of liquor from a Fortuner car at a location under the jurisdiction of Dhanarua police station area. Police sources said that Dhanarua police had been tipped off and had conducted a raid in order to seize the car.
The vehicle, bearing a Jharkhand registration number, is owned by Rakesh Singh, the assistant director at the department of commerce posted in Mumbai.

Patna: JDU youth wing spokesperson Omprakash Singh Setu on Sunday said that prohibition is the expressway for development in the country. Setu added that development will gain momentum if prohibition is implemented in other states as well.

Patna: The School of Law and Governance, Central University of South Bihar, organised a one-day training event on “Human Right Awareness” for the university students. Patna: The Janmukti Sangharsh Vahni on Sunday welcomed the Union law ministry’s decision to conduct a “special arrears clearance drive” to reduce the mounting number of cases. National joint convener of the Vahini, Chakravarti Ashok Priyadarshi, said the move will reduce at least 2 crore pending cases.

Patna: A free check-up for Hepatitis B and C was organised at Liver-Gastro Clinic and Endoscopy Centre under the guidance of Dr Rajiv Ranjan Singh on Sunday. Singh said there are 60 lakh people suffering from the diseases and that there was an urgent need for screening and vaccination to deal with it.

Patna: The state unit of Communist party of India staged a protest march against the proposed rise in the electricity tariff to come into effect from April 1, 2017, on Sunday. The activists alleged that landlords of urban residents living in rented house will get the benefit from the subsidy and lead to further issues between both parties.
Police shot at by gang
Patna: A policeman identified as Munna Choudhary was shot at by a gang of armed criminals when he had gone to conduct a raid under the jurisdiction of Hathua police station on Sunday. Munna, who was injured, has been admitted to Gopalganj sadar hospital for treatment.

Truck clash
Patna: Two brothers — Amit Rajak and Roshan Rajak — were killed when a speeding truck hit their bicycle at Kalyanpur bazaar under the jurisdiction of Bibhutipur police station in Samastipur district on Sunday. Residents paralysed traffic for about two hours to demand adequate compensation for the family and arrest the driver of the truck. Police said the truck has been seized, but the driver is evading arrest.
Interrogation
Patna: Police detained Prakash Chandra Yadvendu for interrogation, in connection with his wife Pooja Devi’s murder at their Gaya residence on Saturday night. Police said unidentified criminals had entered the couple’s house located near Gaya College and shot her while she was sleeping. A complaint was lodged with the Rampur police station in Gaya in this connection.
