Manjhi stresses on sanitation

Patna: Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Thursday underlined the importance of sanitation and the need to construct toilets in every household of the state. anjhi was speaking at an interaction with a delegation of Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council being run under the United Nations Development Programme. he delegation was led by Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council executive director Chris Williams.

Govt to bear study cost

Patna: Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Thursday announced that the government would bear the cost of education of 25 per cent students in non-government primary schools under the Right To Education Act. He was speaking at a function organised to discuss issues of teachers and employees working in non-government primary schools.

Road accident

Munger: Two minor girls died and five persons were injured on Thursday when a truck hit them near Bijayathumari village on the Sono-Jamui road in Jamui district. The injured have been admitted to the Jamui Sadar Hospital.

Body on tracks

Munger: Government Railway Police (Jamalpur) on Thursday recovered the body of a middle-aged person from the tracks near the outer signal of Abhaypur railway station on the Kiul-Jamalpur section.

Bridge protest

Munger: RJD leaders and workers staged a dharna in the town on Thursday to demand the completion of the Ghorghat bridge, the Bariarpur railway over bridge and other railway projects in the district. The protesters accused the Centre of ignoring the need for timely completion of the projects.

Entry tax

Raxaul: Residents of Raxaul, the East Champaran town on the Nepal border, on Thursday thanked the government of the Himalayan nation for lowering the entry tax rates for Indian vehicles crossing over to Nepal. The residents of Raxaul had been adversely hit by a steep hike in entry tax rates this July.

Labourers

Patna: Labour resources minister Dulal Chand Goswami on Thursday spoke on issues concerning the labour class at a programme organised by the Bihar Arthik Adhyayan Sansthan.

Competition

Patna: Akash Singh, a Class XI student of Radiant International School, has been selected for the South-Asian final of a competition to be held in Bangalore on November 10. The winner would win Rs 10 lakh scholarship and a five-day educational trip to Spain.

Land reforms

Patna: AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna, in collaboration with the department of revenue and land reforms, has organised a four-day training programme on Bihar land reforms acts, rules and circulars for government officials. Vyasji, principal secretary, revenue and land reforms, inaugurated the programme on Thursday.
