Five in net for arms supply

Patna: Five alleged arms suppliers were arrested at Jamalpur village in Munger on Sunday .

Special task force personnel conducted a raid at the village and seized five 9mm pistols, 160 live cartridges and 10 magazines from the accused. Inspector-general of police (operations) Amit Kumar said the arrested persons, identified as Lalan Singh, Mohammad Chand, Mohammad Faijam Alam, Mohammad Sabir Ali and Bechu, are residents of Munger.

Food unit inauguration

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday inaugurated a food-processing unit at Rajapakad block in Vaishali. While addressing a public meeting, Nitish said there are big opportunities in the agriculture sector in the state. He also expressed happiness over private investors entering the food-processing sector. The CM said such initiatives would give right price to the farmers for their products Food processing unit proprietor Kiran Ranjan said the cooling unit has the capacity to keep fruits and vegetable fresh for one month.

Power boost

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday made a spot inspection of hydro-electricity project at Bathnaha block in Araria. While inspecting the under-construction project, Nitish met the engineers working on the project and held a meeting with them. The project will generate 8MW electricity and is expected to be completed by 2015.

Fine slap

Patna: Following a special drive conducted by Patna City superintendent of police and traffic superintendent Jayant Kant on Saturday, around 2,215 two-wheelers were fined for not having proper registration number plates. The drive was conducted in urban areas of the city and Rs 2,50,200 was collected as fine.

Computer class

Patna: Patna University would organise C-language tutorial classes at its computer centre on June 12. Science graduates from all universities can participate in the classes, which will be offered for free. Students will be given tutorial classes on C, C++ and other computer languages.

BJP demand

Patna: BJP Kisan Morcha national secretary Anil Sharma and state party vice-president Sanjay Mayukh demanded the implementation of M.S. Swaminathan Commission report in the state. The leaders alleged that the Centre has failed to provide adequate support and minimum price to the farmers for their crops.They also said the present condition of agriculture in the state is in a miserable condition

Maoists nabbed

Motihari: Three Maoists — Suresh Sahni, Dhanesh Sah and Jai Mangal Ram — were arrested following a raid conducted by police at Bakhari village under the jurisdiction of Rajepur police station late on Saturday night. The police have recovered arms and ammunition from them.
