FIRs lodged over shootout
Siwan: A Belaur resident on Sunday evening lodged FIRs with Guthni police station, accusing BJP MLA Ramayan Manjhi, former CPI-ML MLA Satyadeo Ram, Amarjit Kushwaha, along with more than 150 persons, in connection with a shootout at Chilmarwa village under the jurisdiction of Guthni police station on July 6.
Two persons had died in the incident. Guthni station house officer Shambhunath Singh said an FIR was lodged by Amar Singh Mukhia of Belaur panchayat in which he accused former MLA Satyadeo Ram, Amarjit Kushwaha and 10 others for the shootout. In another FIR, BJP MLA Ramayan Manjhi and 15 others were accused. The shootout between BJP and CPI-ML supporters took place on July 6 over a land dispute.
Liquor truck seized
Purnea: Police seized a truck containing liquor after intercepting it in the Zero Mile area under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station on Monday. Three persons were arrested. After loading the liquor in Dalkola, Bengal, the truck was on its way to Motipur in Muzaffarpur district. The arrested persons were produced before the court of chief judicial magistrate Daya Lal Prasad who remanded them in judicial custody.
Body found
Gopalganj: Police on Monday recovered the body of Sandip Kumar, 15, from the outskirts of Kakarkud village under the jurisdiction of Town police station. It was marked with rashes. The boy was missing since Saturday evening. Pramod Yadav, father of the deceased, has lodged an FIR.
Court date
Patna: The division bench of Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Vikash Jain on Monday directed principal secretary, food and consumer protection department, to appear before the court on July 10. The directive came during the hearing of a PIL regarding lack of infrastructure and manpower in state consumer courts.
Rail earnings
Patna: Indian Railways has registered an increase of 11.9 per cent of total earning. It has earned Rs 33,497.09 crore between April 1 and June 30 compared to Rs 29,926.67 crore in the same period last year. Similarly, there has been an increase in passenger revenue to Rs 8,724.66 crore compared to Rs 7462.17 crore last year, a rise of 16.92 per cent.
Clash
Patna: Members of All India Students’ Federation and All India Youth Federation of Bihar State Council on Monday were injured in a lathicharge when they were approaching R-Block to gherao chief minister Nitish Kumar for not meeting their several demands. Many of them, including Patna University Students’ Union general secretary Anshu Kumari and student leader Nikhil Kumar, were arrested.
Protest march
Patna: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Monday organised a protest march against the bomb blasts in Bodhgaya. The protesters burnt Nitish Kumar’s effigy at the Dakbungalow roundabout. Parishad secretary (regional organisation) Gopal Sharma alleged that the terrorist attack on the temple was part of the JD(U)’s vote-bank politics.
