All these centres are under a cloud for alleged involvement in conducting sex determination tests. Cases have been registered against them under Pre-Conception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994. Health department teams had earlier carried out surprise raids at these centres and found several irregularities.

Four arrested

patna: Four men were arrested on Thursday for stealing firearms. In the early hours of June 19, Mohammed Aamir Hashmi of BN College, Mohammed Haqib Ahmed, Mohammed Saddam and Mohammed Rashid entered the house of Awadhesh Sinha in Nehru Nagar area under Patliputra police station, and stole three sophisticated licenced firearms with the purpose of selling them, possibly to Naxalites. The total cost of the arms, including a Colt pistol, a regular carbine and a double barrel rifle, is estimated to be Rs 30 lakh.

Land bank

Patna: Revenue and land reforms minister Ramai Ram on Thursday said that his department has earmarked Rs 200 crore under the Land Bank Scheme. Under it, the government will acquire private land and, based on requirement, land will be provided to agencies for extension and construction of offices and government buildings.

Rape bid by father

Patna: A 13-year-old girl has alleged that her father tried to rape her on Wednesday night. In an FIR lodged with Khajekala police station, the girl said Sanjeev Kumar had been physically exploiting her for around a year because of which her mother committed suicide a month ago. The man was arrested.

Two held for bribe

Patna: State vigilance investigation bureau officials on Thursday arrested Gaya district horticulture officer Ram Ishwar Prasad and his driver Kamlesh Yadav accepting Rs7,000 as bribe. The bureau laid the trap after receiving a complaint from one Ram Pravesh Pandey.
