Jumbo kills mahout

Chhapra: Mahout Dilawar Ansari was killed by an elephant at Samhota village on Monday morning.

The elephant, which was brought to the village for a marriage ceremony, went berserk and destroyed orchards. Divisional forest officer K. Ganesh and police officers reached the spot to bring the elephant under control.

Farewell

Patna: Members of home guards and state fire services organised a farewell function on Monday for outgoing inspector-general (IG) Alok Raj, who has been posted in the criminal investigation (weaker section). A memento was presented to the outgoing officer on this occasion.

Award

Patna: Chandragupt Institute of Management, Patna, has won the “European Award for Best Practices, 2013” organised by European Society for Quality Research, Switzerland, for implementing quality management strategies in the organisation.

Health feat

Patna: Sanjay Singh, a surgeon of Paras HMRI Hospital, conducted two rare heart surgeries.

Patna: The education department would organise camps to disburse funds for distribution of cycles, uniforms and scholarships among students.

Patna: Congress members distributed sweets and fruits among people in Raja Bazaar on Monday to celebrate Sonia Gandhi’s birthday.

Nomination

Patna: Bihar Youth Congress leaders Lalan Kumar and Rakesh Kumar have been nominated members of Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee of East Central Railway.

Seminar

Patna: Mahavir Cancer Sansthan organised a seminar on neuro-oncology on Monday. J.K. Singh, director, Mahavir Cancer Sansthan said the centre was well equipped to handle brain tumour cases.

Alliance

Patna: Congress Legislature Party leader Sadanand Singh on Monday said the party high command would decide on the issue of forging an alliance with secular parties including former ally RJD.
