Patna: The RJD will take out a Bicycle Yatra to highlight the "failures" of the Nitish Kumar government.
RJD members will travel across Bihar to highlight the "worsening law and order situation and failures of prohibition".
RJD leader and former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said: "Chief minister Nitish Kumar's prohibition is a big failure. This is evident from the recent hooch tragedy in Begusarai. A black market worth more than Rs 10,000 crore has been given birth with connivance of police and liquor mafia."
He said ever since prohibition was introduced in the state in April 2016, more than 1.3 lakh people have been arrested but neither an IPS officer nor a liquor mafia have been held under the prohibition law.
Sources said more than 1.29 lakh people have been arrested for violating prohibition. Sources said in the past two years, the police have raided 3.87 lakh locations, while the excise department conducted raids on another 1.96 lakh locations and seized over 14 lakh litres of India made foreign liquor and 7.48 lakh litres of country liquor.
Tejashwi said: "Most of the people arrested under the law are Dalits and Mahadalits. The police have failed to reach people sitting on higher echelons."
The date for the Bicycle Yatra will be announced later but the RJD will invite leaders from its allies to be part of the drive.
Tejashwi added: "The state's law and order situation has worsened. The government and the police administration have no control on law and order. People are afraid of moving in the evening."
The RJD leader highlighted the Gaya rape incidents and the recent eve-teasing incidents. "Criminals have no fear of police as they are uploading videos after committing heinous crimes, throwing an open challenge to the police," he said.
