Patna, Sept. 22: Magadh University (MU) acting vice-chancellor (VC) Arun Kumar Sinha, in a decision taken within 24 hours yesterday, quashed the order of AN College principal Haridwar Singh recommending the termination of services of three college teachers.
On September 20, Haridwar issued a notice based on the college enquiry committee and Mahila Help Line terminating the services of three contractual teachers, Shagufta Saif, Saista Saif and Anita Singh.
Though the principal had ordered termination of services of all three, Sinha has reinstated only Shagufta and Saista leaving aside Anita.
Haridwar said: “We are sending the detailed report to the acting VC to review the case once again. The acting VC should look into the matter once again as I had issued a notice for termination of services of all three.”
The trio, who work on a contractual basis at the biotechnology department, were terminated from service, as they were charged with indiscipline and not taking classes regularly.
Haridwar had taken the decision based on the reports of the college inquiry committee. The committee report based on visits to the biotechnology department in July found incidence of violence among Shagufta, Shaista and Anita on May 5 and May 14. The Telegraph has a copy of the inquiry report.
The reports suggested violation of norms and discipline by the Saif sisters.
Even students had complained against the Saif sisters, alleging they did not co-operate and for irregular in classes.
The students wrote a letter to the principal in July, informing him that both the Saif sisters were not regular in classes and also did not provide necessary equipment and chemicals for conducting practical classes.
The students have to arrange equipment and chemicals themselves, thereby wasting time. The students’ letter requested the college authorities to replace the Saif sisters with new demonstrators. The letter also mentioned that Shagufta and Shaista seldom provided answers to their queries and scolded them for raising questions.
The women’s helpline, too, has also conducted a probe into the charges levelled against the duo. The Saif sisters themselves registered the complaint at the helpline, alleging rude behaviour by the college administration. During the course of investigation, it was found the Saif sisters were not obeying orders of the principal or the department heads. Moreover, the department teachers and faculty were not satisfied with the performance of the Saif sisters.
